Staff Software Engineer - C#, .Net Core

About the team

The Collections Excellence Crew supports and evolves CommBank’s mission‑critical Collections platforms, including the PowerCurve Collections (PCC) suite and surrounding services. The team delivers stable, scalable, cloud-enabled systems that power both strategic initiatives and essential BAU operations across the bank. This role suits an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across multiple engineering domains.

What You’ll Do

The Staff Software Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, building, enhancing, and supporting systems across the Collections ecosystem. The role spans engineering, SRE, BAU support, operational automation, and vendor platform integration.

You will:

  • Build and optimise backend services using C# and .NET Core
  • Develop and enhance database components using Oracle and advanced SQL
  • Work across AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Apply SRE practices including observability, SLIs/SLOs, and resilience engineering
  • Lead BAU investigations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation
  • Collaborate closely with vendors such as PowerCurve (Experian)
  • Participate in the on-call roster to support critical production systems
  • Take on any technical work required across application, data, integration, SRE, or operations
  • Use modern AI-assisted engineering practices where appropriate
  • Learn and work with the PowerCurve Collections Suite as part of the role
Technical Skills and Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience in C# and .NET Core
  • Advanced SQL and Oracle skills (packages, procedures, tuning, performance)
  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Solid experience in production support, debugging, and issue diagnosis
  • Ability to work across the full SDLC and operational lifecycle
  • Willingness to join the on-call support roster
  • Openness to learning PowerCurve Collections
Beneficial Skills
  • Aurora, DocumentDB, SQL Server
  • Groovy (useful for PCC customisation)
  • Frontend exposure (Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
  • CI/CD tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, TeamCity
  • Monitoring and observability tooling
  • SRE practices, automation, performance engineering
  • Familiarity with AI tooling to improve engineering and operational efficiency
