The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Consumer Lending Team, you'll lead the technical strategy and oversee the building of scalable and innovative Global Lending solutions, impacting 24M+ customers across both the Afterpay and Cash App and Web Portals.
We're completely revamping how we connect Afterpay with the CashApp and Square ecosystem and how we're making our global customers' experience unique and rewarding.
This is a perfect opportunity for a software engineer who thrives in autonomous, high-agency environments, and enjoys championing product & technical initiatives that drive team and organisational-level impacts.
You Will

• Own the complete software lifecycle end to end - from initial design and development through production rollout and ongoing system support.
• Work in cross-functional Product engineering teams to drive discovery, delivery and validation of product features.
• Drive system consolidations and service improvements that enhance overall platform reliability and performance.
• Proactively identify, design, and champion technical initiatives that deliver measurable organisational impact beyond immediate team boundaries.
• Influence technical direction and standards across multiple teams and product areas.
• Working with the most advanced suite of AI tools to improve engineering speed, quality and learning whilst shaping practices that help with boosting efficiency & productivity.

You Have

• 10+ years of strong experience building scalable and maintainable software applications using modern JVM languages, preferably Java or Kotlin.
• Experience using backend technologies including Spring Boot, ORM/Hibernate, gRPC, Kafka, Redis, Temporal workflow, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong experience working with Cloud technologies, preferably AWS stack.
• Strong experience with structured Logging, error tracing, service monitoring and alerting.
• Strong experience building testable, decoupled, maintainable code with high test coverage and quality in mind.
• Experience working within an agile and fast moving environment.
