The role
We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join our Pricing team in the Lending Organization, with focus on our Student Loan Refinance (SLR) and Private Student Lending (PSL) businesses. This is an exciting role for someone to make a direct impact on the revenue of SoFi. As a staff data scientist and key leader in our Pricing team, you will take on mentorship and leadership responsibilities, helping to manage and develop the team while driving innovation in pricing strategy. You’ll work closely with business leaders, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to design, test, and implement pricing strategies that optimize profitability and customer acquisition. To maximize success, the role requires strong technical aptitude/ quantitative skills/ problem solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work collaboratively within cross-departmental teams as the Pricing function has impacts across many parts of the organization.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the day to day development of pricing strategies that balance interest rates, volumes, and credit risk, working across both SLR and PSL businesses
- Analyze the existing portfolio and strategies to identify opportunities for growth
- Collaborate with different stakeholders across business unit, finance, capital markets, risk, marketing and other functional areas
- Run A/B tests and continuously discover trends in customer behavior to inform decision making with a high level of confidence
- Monitor and refine pricing models based on customer behavior, competitive trends, and macroeconomic conditions.
- Present insights within the Pricing team as well as to other executive and senior manager level stakeholders within the Company to create a broad understanding of business performance and opportunity areas.
- Manage, mentor, and provide guidance to junior data scientists, supporting their technical and strategic growth.
What you’ll need:
- M.B.A, B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics or a related quantitative field is required for this position;
- 10+ years of industrial experience working in the area of pricing and/or credit risk strategies
- Strong understanding of business drivers including revenue drivers, cost drivers and profitability metrics
- Experience with people management, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration in a data science setting
- Strong background in data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional programming skills in Python and SQL
- Strong knowledge of Tableau and experience building production-level dashboards
- Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, with strong attention to detail;
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear business recommendations.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills;
Nice to have:
- Experience working with product and/or engineering teams
- Experience with Snowflake & DBT
- Experience with Gitlab
- Experience with machine learning and statistical modeling methods for supervised and unsupervised learning

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
