See yourself in our team

The Cloud movement at CommBank is thriving, and we’re looking for out-of-the-box thinkers to solve real-world problems for our 17 million+ customers. This role is a unique opportunity to lead the delivery of a new SaaS-based platform—Temporal, which enables Durable Execution of Workflows across the bank.

As the Technical Product Owner, you will:
  • Set and define the product strategy, vision, goals and roadmap, aligned to Crew objectives and purpose, and engage with key stakeholders to manage technical delivery.

  • Champion the adoption of Temporal across multiple internal teams including Payments, Retail Banking, Security, Cloud and Networks.

  • Take overall accountability and technical ownership for the design and engineering of a platform, while addressing impediments and resolving escalations.

  • Utilise strong knowledge of software engineering methodology to ensure systems are loosely coupled, fit-for-purpose, and comply with technical requirements.

  • Act as the primary interface between the platform team and business units, gathering requirements and translating them into actionable backlog items.

  • Promote the Temporal service, helping teams integrate it securely into their workflows via CBA’s internal toolsets.

  • Steer delivery and prioritisation without direct reports, leading through influence and technical credibility.

We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has a strong software development background, with hands-on coding experience and a deep understanding of how to integrate SDKs into existing technical workflows and pipelines.

  • Well versed in saga patterns, with hands-on experience implementing orchestration and choreography use cases in real-world applications.

  • Is comfortable working across diverse codebases and can advise teams on incorporating Temporal into platforms built with technologies like Java, .NET, Python, TypeScript and more.

  • Has experience with workflow-based platforms such as Pega and understands orchestration and transaction properties.

  • Can communicate effectively with stakeholders and translate technical needs into strategic delivery.

  • Experience managing vendors and driving outcomes aligned to strategic goals
