What will your role be?

This specific role of the Transport Lead is to manage all the transportation requirements of the assigned market to meet consumer and customer service objectives whilst achieving minimum transport / overall distribution costs.

Specifically, the role holder is responsible for defining, providing, controlling and commercially managing all transportation (land, sea and air) within the scope of the market/area. This includes all moves from international material suppliers to delivery of finished goods to customer (excludes local material supplier delivery on supplied terms).

The role holder will ensure that transport service objectives are developed and the right capabilities (local transport suppliers, know-how, systems, processes, network infrastructure and commercial agreements) are provided to the customers and finished goods distribution centres. This will include the day to day operational management of contracted transport partners.

Please note: This position is a 6 month contract position.

What does this role look like for you?

  • Accountable for and manage all transportation in the market/area.
  • Obtain service standardization and network synergies across an end-to-end transport solution.
  • Design and drive an efficient and effective customer delivery scheme by having optimal balance of customer service and transport costs in place.
  • Drive and own key change initiatives in transportation to deliver integrated (where possible) and cost-effective transport solutions. -
  • Own the executional interface with 3rd party transport service providers, for all transport activities, in the market/area.
  • Support a balanced score card approach to performance measurement with standardized supplier metrics and appropriate behaviors to obtain unified performance measures and consistent high level of service.
  • Ensure contractual commitments of the suppliers are delivered and exceeded, managed via clearly defined governance structure (target, performance, support).
  • Drive all transport suppliers towards high performance levels, delivering and exceeding the (mutually agreed) performance expectations and financial targets by engaging with the suppliers and relevant key stake holders in Business.
  • Commercial and contractual ownership and control of the transport budget with all suppliers.
  • Accountable for all invoice payments to transportation vendors, and resolution of claims payment processing.
  • Fully understand commercial needs of the market and to translate this into required transport capabilities. - Budget management, develop annual operating plans in line with AOP expectations, track and prepare variance analysis reports for expense vs budget.
  • Provide tactical direction to the transport suppliers to drive delivery of efficiency & savings in transport spend.

What will you bring to the table?

  • Relevant Tertiary Degree desirable but not essential
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Package and SAP desirable
  • Demonstrated understanding or formal training in aspects of the Chain of Responsibility
  • Good understanding of the local supply chain operations.
  • Transport functional expertise is a key success factor for this role. Detailed knowledge is required across a range of transport activities including; transport execution, multi modal solutions, direct deliveries to retailer, 3rd party and supplier management.
  • A solid appreciation of the additional security requirements when moving excise products is preferable.
  • Continuous improvement background and skill set.
  • Practical outlook with pragmatic decision making abilities.
  • Experience in supplier / 3rd party / outsourced logistics solution management.
  • Experience in contract development, defining SLAs, processes, procedures and KPIs.
  • Influencing and leadership skills.
