Job Summary

The Senior Wireless Network Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring Telstra’s wireless networks deliver a superior experience for our consumer and business customers.
In this role you bring deep levels of wireless engineering expertise and experience to define, guide and drive standardisation, compliance, planning, design, integration or optimisation in wireless network technology domains. You also leverage extensive experience to develop platform specific technology roadmaps, strategies, and make informed technology investment recommendations.
Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills are core to your role, in addition to having a passion for continuous development, coaching and mentoring to support capability uplift within the wireless network technology domain.Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the planning, design, standardisation, integration and optimisation of Telstra’s wireless networks to deliver strong customer, operational and commercial outcomes at the Telstra Innovation Centre.
  • Translate customer, functional and business requirements into clear engineering solutions, including trade-offs, risks and downstream impacts.
  • Act as a senior technical authority to identify and resolve complex engineering risks, constraints and performance issues across wireless domains (e.g.,4G/5G RAN, satellite, fronthaul/backhaul).
  • Maintain technical currency in wireless theory, tools, systems and emerging technologies to shape future network direction.
  • Uplift engineering practice and maturity across mission and component teams by defining and embedding standards, tools and ways of working at the Telstra Innovation Centre.
  • Contribute domain expertise to design forums and implementation strategies; support root-cause problem solving across cross-functional teams.
  • Assess vendor technologies and contribute to architecture-aligned recommendations, roadmaps and investment decisions.
  • Apply commercial judgement to balance cost, performance and risk, and help prioritise backlogs and initiatives for maximum strategic value.
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers; support scalable training and onboarding materials and role-model inclusive, outcome-focused behaviors.

About You

  • Experienced Wireless Network Engineer with strong hands‑on expertise across RAN (4G/5G), satellite, and/or transmission domains.
  • Deep technical capability in radio access engineering, using data and sound engineering judgement to make and articulate decisions.
  • Comfortable working in high‑compliance environments, including EME compliance and NATA‑aligned assessment and measurement.
  • Proven experience evaluating vendor technologies, features, and hardware introductions.
  • Recognised technical leader who can influence without authority, collaborate across functions, and work autonomously on complex initiatives.
  • Strong communicator with structured problem‑solving, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.
  • Motivated to uplift engineering practices, standards, tools, and capability within Centre of Excellence (CoE) environments.
  • Able to balance hands‑on delivery with strategic input into roadmaps and investment decisions.
  • Holds tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent industry experience.

Your Impact in the Wireless Engineering TDV CoE

  • Act as a key implementer of engineering practice standards, uplifting tools, ways of working, and technical quality across mission teams.
  • Contribute deep domain expertise to technical discussions, design forums, and implementation strategies across cross‑functional teams.
  • Serve as a trusted CoE domain expert, supporting collaborative problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis of emerging network technologies.
  • Apply out‑of‑the‑box thinking to deliver innovative engineering outcomes.
  • Shape and influence the engineering cohort within the Telstra Innovation Centre, helping develop future engineering leaders.
