The opportunity

We're looking for an experienced AI Governance leader to oversee and strengthen QBE's AI governance framework across the organisation. In this highly visible role, you'll lead the governance standards, processes and controls that enable the safe, responsible and compliant use of AI, partnering with stakeholders across the business to ensure AI solutions are implemented in line with regulatory requirements and QBE's risk appetite.

Your new role

As the AI Governance COE Lead, you'll be responsible for leading the oversight and management of AI governance policy, standards and processes across QBE. Acting as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, you'll work closely with senior stakeholders across Business Divisions and Corporate Functions, including Data, Technology, Privacy, and Risk teams, to drive governance, risk, and compliance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing uplift of QBE's AI Governance Policy, standards and operating framework.

  • Partner with Divisional and Group stakeholders to embed AI governance processes and ensure consistent adoption across the organisation.

  • Provide leadership and oversight for AI governance activities, ensuring alignment with regulatory, risk and compliance requirements.

  • Drive change management and stakeholder engagement initiatives to support awareness, accountability and adoption of AI governance practices.

  • Lead and continuously improve the third-party AI assessment process, ensuring robust governance of external AI solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline, digitise and enhance AI governance processes, reporting and risk oversight frameworks.

About you

You are a strategic thinker and trusted advisor with deep experience in AI governance, data and AI risk, or emerging technology governance. You bring a practical approach to embedding governance frameworks, can influence stakeholders at all levels, and enjoy working in a fast-moving environment where standards, regulations and technology continue to evolve. Ideally, you'll bring experience from a mature, highly regulated environment and have a passion for shaping the future of responsible AI.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience leading and embedding AI governance, model governance, AI risk or responsible AI frameworks within a large and complex organisation.

  • Strong understanding of AI governance, AI risk management, emerging regulations and industry best practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across business, technology, risk, compliance and governance functions.

  • Experience driving organisational change, operating model uplift and governance process transformation.

  • Strong communication, facilitation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into practical outcomes

  • Experience within financial services, insurance, banking or another highly regulated environment, with a track record of delivering thought leadership in AI governance highly regarded.
