About Us

Andromeda Robotics is an ambitious social robotics company with offices in Melbourne and San Francisco, dedicated to creating robots that seamlessly and intelligently interact with the human world. Our first robot, Abi, is a testament to this vision—a custom-built platform designed from the ground up to be a helpful aid and intuitive partner in aged care homes. We are a passionate, collaborative team of engineers who solve some of the most challenging problems in AI and robotics.

Our Values
  • Empathy - Kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Play - Play sharpens focus. It keeps us curious, fast and obsessed with the craft.
  • Never Settle - A relentless ambition, bias toward action, and uncomfortable levels of curiosity.
  • Tenacity - Tenacious under pressure, we assume chaos and stay in motion to adapt and progress.
  • Unity- Different minds. Shared mission. No passengers.
Role Summary

We’re hiring an early‑career AI Software Engineer to improve Abi’s recall and conversational memory, and to close the loop between field learnings and product improvements. This is a hands‑on engineering role with the unique ability for you to spend weekly time in the field: you’ll join our Customer Success team for sessions in aged care homes, observe how Abi interacts, and translate real resident needs into product changes. This role will interface heavily with other software teams to bring their output to the customer experience. You’ll work on memory databases, conversational context extraction, and help integrate advanced conversational flows in a multi-model architecture.

Ideal for someone with 1–2 years’ experience (or significant team/project experience during university), strong Python and async/concurrency chops, clear opinions backed by reasoning, and excellent communication with a commercial lens.

Impact You’ll Have
  • Improve Abi’s recall and continuity across sessions with residents.
  • Turn field insights into shippable features that measurably improve resident experience.
  • Strengthen our conversational memory pipelines and metrics so we can monitor quality and iterate faster.
  • Help operationalise the “thinker/talker” dual‑model approach and its user‑profile guidance in production.

RequirementsKey Responsibilities
  • Build, refine, and maintain conversational memory pipelines (storage, retrieval, context assembly) that improve recall across sessions.
  • Implement asynchronous services and integrations that support real‑time voice and chat experiences.
  • Collaborate weekly with Customer Success in aged care homes: observe sessions, triage issues, gather qualitative/quantitative feedback, and prioritise fixes.
  • Instrument and track product and field metrics (e.g., recall success rate, latency, memory hit/miss, session quality signals) and use them to drive decisions.
  • Contribute to the “thinker/talker” (Abi + Abi Guide) architecture and user‑profile‑guided behaviours.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders; write design docs and post‑mortems that are crisp and actionable.
  • Ship small, frequent improvements; own outcomes end‑to‑end.
Ideally You Have
  • 1–2 years’ industry experience (or equivalent substantial team‑based projects).
  • Strong Python, with real experience in concurrency and asynchronous programming (e.g., asyncio, async frameworks, concurrency patterns).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and collaborate across functions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commercial mindset; comfortable translating field insights into product changes.
  • Willingness to join weekly sessions in aged care homes; respectful, empathetic, and professional on‑site.
Bonus Points if you have…
  • Experience with LiveKit or similar real‑time voice/video (WebRTC) platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud concepts (AWS or similar) and infra basics; not tied to a specific provider.
  • Exposure to C++ in production contexts.
  • Conversational AI experience: memory systems, context retrieval, embeddings/RAG, speech‑to‑text/TTS.
  • Experiment tracking, metrics dashboards, and lightweight A/B testing in applied ML settings.

Benefits

The salary for this position may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional benefits or components based on the specific role. Details will be provided if an employment offer is made.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, that’s okay—we encourage you to apply. At Andromeda Robotics, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Let’s build the future together.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
