American Express is looking for an Analyst to join the Business Insights and Analytics team supporting our International Card Services (ICS) business in Australia and New Zealand. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career analyst to develop technical expertise while working with one of the world's leading financial services companies.

In this role, you will partner with Product, Acquisition, Loyalty, Partnerships, Digital, Marketing, and other business teams to deliver reporting, analytics, and customer insights that support business growth and decision-making. You will gain hands-on experience working with large datasets, developing dashboards, creating customer audiences for marketing campaigns, and building analytical solutions that help improve business performance and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

Analytics & Business Insights

  • Support the delivery of analytics by extracting, transforming, and analysing data to answer business questions and identify customer behaviours, trends, and business opportunities.
  • Create and extract targeted customer groups (audiences) for marketing, acquisition, loyalty, and customer engagement campaigns, ensuring selections align with business requirements.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and present insights that support business decision-making and strategic initiatives.
     

Reporting & Dashboard Development

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and Tableau.
  • Support the automation of recurring reporting processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Assist in monitoring key business metrics and communicating performance trends to stakeholders.
     

Data Management & Quality

  • Extract and prepare data using SQL for reporting and analysis.
  • Perform data validation and quality checks to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency.
  • Support the maintenance and documentation of reporting processes and analytical assets.
     

Stakeholder Support

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate business questions into analytical solutions.
  • Present analytical findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business to deliver high-quality analytical outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Commerce, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, Python, or other data visualisation and analytics tools through university, internships, or projects is desirable.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Curious mindset with a passion for using data to solve business problems.
  • Experience with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar technologies is advantageous.
