Company Description

Are you a technical accountant who enjoys solving complex accounting issues and presenting your thinking to others?

KPMG’s Mid‑Market & Private Accounting & Reporting Centre (MARC) is growing, and we are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our national team. This is not a traditional office‑based role. You will work with clients and colleagues across Australia and the South Pacific, gaining exposure to a diverse range of industries, transactions, and technical challenges.

Join our Mid-Market & Private Accounting & Reporting Centre (MARC), a specialised and growing team within KPMG with representation across Australia, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. MARC is dedicated to supporting mid-market, private, and government organisations with their complex technical accounting and financial reporting challenges. We are looking for an Assistant Manager with a strong growth mindset and a dedicated technical accounting background to join our national team.

Job Description

The Role

This is a national role rather than being restricted to one office, offering you the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and colleagues across Australia and the South Pacific. As an Assistant Manager in the MARC team, you will act as a trusted client-facing advisor, leveraging your deep technical expertise to help organisations stay confident, compliant, and future-ready.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical accounting assistance: Provide core expertise in the interpretation and application of AASB and IFRS standards for a diverse range of organisations.
  • Growth & Business Development: Apply your growth mindset to actively contribute to the expansion of the team and business; we value creativity in identifying new opportunities and leading internal initiatives.
  • Public Speaking & Training: MARC delivers biannual financial reporting updates to our clients across multiple offices; you will play a key role in these sessions, providing an excellent platform to enhance your public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Transaction & structuring support: Address accounting implications for complex transactions, including acquisitions, restructures, and share-based payments.
  • Accounting policy development: Assist clients in preparing clear, compliant accounting policies and manuals tailored to their organisation.
  • Opportunities for client secondments: allowing you to work directly within client teams and gain practical, in‑house exposure to complex financial reporting and technical accounting challenges.
  • Financial statement compilation: Oversee the compilation of complex financial statements and provide necessary accounting advisory support.

What You Bring

  • Technical Background: A strong background in technical accounting advisory is preferred; while audit experience is valued, we are specifically looking for candidates who enjoy the advisory and problem-solving side of accounting standards.
  • AASB/IFRS Expertise: A core understanding and ability to interpret and apply complex AASB and IFRS standards.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience in technical accounting advisory within a Big4 firm.
  • Commercial Mindset: Combining deep AASB/IFRS expertise with practical commercial experience to provide fit-for-purpose guidance.
  • Entrepreneurial Drive: A proactive approach with interest in contributing to team growth and capability building.
  • Qualifications: CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent).

Work Your Way

At KPMG, we believe that "where" and "when" you work should fit your life, not the other way around.

  • Location Flexible: This role is a national opportunity and can be based in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, or Brisbane.
  • True Work-Life Balance: We offer genuine flexibility to ensure you can meet your personal commitments while excelling professionally.
  • Agile Arrangements: Whether it’s flexible start/finish times, hybrid working patterns, or compressed hours, we are committed to finding a rhythm that works for you.

Why KPMG's MARC Team?

The MARC team supports mid‑market, private, and government organisations by helping them navigate complex technical accounting and financial reporting challenges with clarity and confidence. Our work is practical, collaborative, and tailored to the specific needs of each client across Australia and the South Pacific.

In MARC, you experience the best of both worlds: the scale, resources, and technical depth of a global firm, combined with the agile, relationship‑driven environment of working closely with private and mid‑market organisations. This creates meaningful client impact, strong professional relationships, and opportunities to build deep technical expertise in a supportive national team.
