Job Description

Your Opportunity

We're looking for an Associate DBA to join our Cloud, Data & Infrastructure team within Enterprise Technology Services.

In this role, you'll provide operational database administration support across Oracle and SQL Server environments, helping maintain the performance, availability, and reliability of critical systems that support Australia's payments ecosystem. You'll work closely with Senior DBAs and technology stakeholders to deliver business-as-usual support, operational improvements, and database-related projects. 

You'll also make an impact by:

  • Providing operational DBA support across Oracle and SQL Server database environments.
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting database performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Supporting database maintenance, upgrades, backups, and recovery activities.
  • Contributing to operational projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working closely with Senior DBAs, infrastructure teams, and application teams to support critical production environments.
  • Participating in an on-call roster to provide after-hours support for business-critical systems.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

To succeed in this role, you'll have:

  • 3-5 years' experience in database administration, although we welcome strong candidates with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong Oracle Database Administration experience.
  • Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, highly available production environments.
  • Knowledge of database operations, maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong SQL scripting and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery principles.
  • Ability to participate in a rostered on-call support rotation (approximately every two weeks).
  • Flexibility to undertake occasional paid overtime when required. 

You'll stand out from the crowd if you have:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle Exadata, or SQL Server Always On technologies.
  • Exposure to financial services, payments, or PCI-DSS regulated environments.
  • Experience working in Agile or product-led technology teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft certifications.
