Key purpose of the role

-Deliver innovative capital markets solutions, focused on debt transactions geared towards Leveraged Capital Markets (“LCM”) and institutional investor distribution

-Contribute to the origination of underwritten or arranged capital markets solutions, bridging the needs of MUFG’s client base with the investment appetite of MUFG’s investor network

-Contribute to MUFG’s broader Capital Markets Group (“CMG”) business which operates globally across Investment Grade, Specialized Finance and LCM

-Work closely with the other Regional and Global LCM functions within CMG, the Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, GCIB coverage and product teams, distribution teams, external borrowers and loan investors

-Provide support to senior team members to develop a sustainable client focused primary loan markets business for MUFG clients

Key responsibilities

-Assist in the origination of Leveraged Capital Markets (LCM) opportunities within the broader Capital Markets Group team

-Provide support to senior team members in determining pricing, assessing market liquidity and syndication/execution strategy in support of the relevant structured and leveraged finance functions

-Determining pricing, assessing market liquidity, defining and executing distribution strategy in support of the relevant debt origination function

-Maintain a comprehensive understanding of investor and financial sponsor requirements in terms of risk appetite, structure and pricing in order to assess and take underwriting risk and ensure a successful syndication of transactions

-Maintain a strong understanding of leveraged finance fundamentals (structure, financial model, due diligence, documentation)

-Collaborate with MUFG distribution teams, other regional and global syndicate teams to optimise financing solutions to meet client needs and roll out MUFG’s originate to distribute strategy

-Work in partnership with colleagues across all regions to develop and broaden the overall relationship with core clients by providing high quality support and product interface with regards to capital markets financing opportunities. Manage information flow and transaction process through its different stages from initial analysis, client pitches/offers to the distribution strategy and completion/execution phase

-Oversee preparation of underwriting applications, deal screening support memos and production of high-quality market research on pricing, deal structures and investor activity as required for tailor-made client presentations and pitches

-Collaborate with internal stakeholders and build relationships throughout MUFG to establish a peer network to ensure appropriate engagement and support to develop, secure and maximise product opportunities, gather relevant information and help to ensure effective inter-departmental collaboration

-Develop a practical understanding of all core systems and procedures within Capital Markets Group with a view to implement efficiencies and improvements where possible

-Work collaboratively with junior colleagues to ensure accuracy and timeliness, including but not limited to producing comparable analysis as well as updating the pricing database, and the pipeline report

-Develop and maintain effective relationships with counterparts in other banking institutions as well as financial sponsors to maximise market profile, origination opportunities as well as deal efficiency and collaboration opportunities

-Contribute to build MUFG’s brand within the leveraged capital markets segment to generate a pipeline of deal flow consistent with our sector vertical approach, target size range and geographic focus

-Manage information flow and transaction process through its different stages from initial analysis, client pitches/offers to the distribution strategy and completion phase, including but not limited to preparing pricing build ups and comparable analysis

-Contribute to the production of high-quality market research on pricing, deal structures and investor activity as required for tailor-made client presentations and pitch-books

Requirements

-1 to 3 years’ work experience in Financial Markets (experience in Leveraged Finance will be viewed upon favourably)

-Bachelor and/or Masters Degree(s) in Commerce, Finance or business-related fields

-Analytical background with strong attention to detail

-Ability to work in teams as well as autonomously

-Resourceful and ‘can-do’ attitude with ability to work well with internal and external parties

-Proficiency with Excel as well as strong skills in Word and PowerPoint

-Commercial perspective and approach with an understanding of loan or bonds markets
