Job Purpose:

BTIG APAC is seeking an experienced Front Office Technical Support Specialist for a 12-month contract based in Sydney. The role provides dedicated, front-line on-site support to a trading and operations group of approximately 20 people, while working as part of a broader APAC Technology team spanning Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia. Its central focus is the reliable day-to-day operation of the local network, storage, data-center, desktop, and systems environment that supports the desk.

The successful candidate will be a practical, dependable technologist who enjoys working directly with users in a fast-paced financial-services environment. They will resolve issues with minimal disruption, improve the reliability of desk-level tools and infrastructure, and work closely with local colleagues and remote technology teams. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide responsive, hands-on front-line technical support to Sydney-based trading and operations users.
  • Support the local network, storage, and data-center environment, escalating and coordinating with regional or US technology teams where appropriate.
  • Support and maintain desk-level Microsoft Excel, VBA, and Python tools, coordinating with their owners and users to resolve issues and improve reliability.
  • Administer and support Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Active Directory, and storage services.
  • Assist with storage strategy, migration, and transition activities, including knowledge transfer from existing support resources.
  • Build, maintain, and retire Linux virtual machines in line with agreed lifecycle and operational practices.
  • Diagnose and resolve desktop, systems, access, and connectivity incidents; communicate clearly about impact, progress, and resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with APAC and US technology colleagues to ensure critical systems have appropriate ownership and support coverage.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience providing technical support in financial services, ideally within a front office or trading-floor environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office support skills, including SharePoint and Active Directory administration, together with practical experience supporting network and storage services.
  • Experience building and managing Linux virtual machines.
  • Practical scripting and automation experience, particularly with VBA and Python, to support and maintain user-facing tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot methodically, manage competing priorities, and resolve issues with appropriate urgency.
  • Clear, respectful communication skills and the ability to work effectively with traders, operations colleagues, and distributed technology teams.
  • A reliable, collaborative approach, with curiosity and a willingness to develop new platform knowledge.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Provide basic database support and coordinate larger database work with the US technology team, including the SQLHK01 estate
  • Experience supporting front office trading platforms, such as Fidessa or Triton, including configuration, troubleshooting, and user support.
  • Familiarity with database operations or infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting storage migration or transition programs.
