Job Description

  • Part-time (14 hours per week), 2-year Fixed-Term position at HEW Level 7.
  • Based at Blacktown Clinical School, Blacktown Hospital. 
  • Salary: $107,053 – $115,469 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading (Pro-rata).

Support clinical research that makes a difference by providing expert financial stewardship across a diverse portfolio of clinical trials.

The Opportunity

As the Clinical Trials Finance Officer, you'll play an important role behind the scenes, providing the financial expertise that helps our researchers and health partners deliver high-quality clinical trials with confidence.

Working across the Faculty of Health and alongside our health partners, you'll oversee the financial administration of a diverse portfolio of clinical research projects. From monitoring budgets and forecasting expenditure to preparing financial reports and ensuring funding compliance, you'll provide accurate financial insights that support informed decision-making throughout the life of each trial.

You'll collaborate with researchers, clinical trial staff, sponsors, funding bodies and University teams to provide trusted advice on financial processes, reporting requirements and funding obligations. You'll also contribute to improving financial systems and processes, helping ensure our clinical trial operations remain efficient, compliant and well supported.

Based at Blacktown Clinical School (Blacktown Hospital), this role operates across multiple campuses and may require regular travel between University and partner locations, particularly Campbelltown Campus.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Clinical trial budgets, expenditure and financial milestones are managed accurately across a portfolio of research projects.
  • Financial feasibility assessments support informed planning, funding decisions and resource allocation for new clinical trials.
  • Accurate financial reporting, forecasting and reconciliations provide confidence to researchers, sponsors and funding partners.
  • Accounts payable and receivable activities are managed efficiently, ensuring timely payments and compliance with University requirements.
  • Continuous improvements to financial processes and reporting practices enhance the efficiency and integrity of clinical trial operations.

About You
You'll be an organised and analytical finance professional who enjoys working collaboratively and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality financial outcomes. You'll thrive in an environment where your expertise directly supports research that has a meaningful impact on health and wellbeing.

You will bring:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.
  • Experience in financial administration, budgeting and reporting, ideally within clinical trials, research, healthcare or higher education.
  • A sound understanding of financial management principles, funding agreements and compliance requirements relating to research activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial information, apply policy and provide practical advice.
  • Advanced skills in financial systems, Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools, together with excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
