About the role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Coal Quality Tester to join our laboratory team. The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out laboratory testing and analysis of coal samples, ensuring accurate, reliable and timely results for our clients.

We have two opportunities available: one requiring someone with laboratory testing experience (ICP-MS experience preferred), and another for an individual committed to maintaining high technical, safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyse coal and related geological samples in accordance with approved methods.

  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing accurately and efficiently.

  • Operate, maintain and carry out basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

  • Where applicable, conduct elemental analysis using ICP-MS and other analytical instrumentation.

  • Record, review and report test results in accordance with laboratory procedures.

  • Ensure all testing is completed in line with quality, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and report any non-conforming results, equipment issues or deviations from procedure.

  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and contribute to data integrity.

  • Keep work areas, equipment and testing facilities clean, safe and organised.

  • Participate in quality assurance, calibration, proficiency testing and continuous improvement activities.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the laboratory and wider business.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, testing or analytical environment.

  • A qualification in Chemistry, Laboratory Science, Geology, Environmental Science or a related discipline is desirable.

  • Experience in coal, minerals, environmental or geological testing is advantageous.

  • Experience operating ICP-MS instrumentation is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to laboratory work.

  • The ability to follow documented procedures and produce accurate results.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A commitment to workplace health and safety.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
