We process approximately $100 million per month in payment volume and operate as a subsidiary within a larger international group. Australian innovation. Global ambition.
Why this role exists
We are looking for an ambitious, hands-on Commercial Accountant who enjoys working across finance reporting, finance operations, audit, tax, compliance and improvement projects in a growing technology and payments business.
This is not a traditional transactional accounting role. While a strong accounting foundation is important, the focus is on running the finance function effectively, improving processes and controls, managing audit and tax requirements, and owning ad-hoc finance projects as the business evolves.
The role also includes budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, giving you broad exposure across the finance function and a clear pathway to step into a Finance Manager role within approximately 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Operations & Process Improvement

  • Support the day-to-day effectiveness of the finance function by identifying issues, gaps, and opportunities to improve how processes operate.
  • Lead and support ad hoc finance and operational projects, particularly those arising from business growth, system changes, new products, or post-acquisition requirements.
  • Review existing finance workflows and implement improvements to make processes more efficient, scalable and well controlled.
  • Strengthen finance documentation, procedures, approval workflows and audit trails.
  • Support finance system and reporting improvements across platforms such as Xero, NetSuite and other operational systems.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Play a key role in the external audit process, including preparing schedules, coordinating supporting documentation and managing audit queries.
  • Maintain strong audit readiness throughout the year rather than treating audit as a year-end exercise.
  • Coordinate BAS, GST, income tax, R&D and other statutory obligations, working closely with external tax advisors.
  • Help identify finance, tax and compliance risks and work with the Head of Finance to implement practical solutions.
  • Liaise with government and regulatory bodies including the ATO, ASIC and other relevant authorities
Financial Control & Reporting Support
  • Support key month-end and year-end activities where required, with a focus on review, control and issue resolution rather than transactional processing.
  • Support consolidated financial reporting and revenue recognition (including cross-border)
  • Support the financial management and reporting of key international entities within the group
  • Review key balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules and unusual movements.
  • Support quarterly and annual budgeting and forecasting, coordinating assumptions and inputs across the business.
  • Support rolling forecasts and improve the quality and discipline of financial planning.
  • Ensure financial records and supporting documentation remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Assist with management reporting and financial commentary for senior leadership and head office.
  • Maintain and improve financial controls and finance processes, including identifying opportunities to automate and improve finance systems and reporting
Commercial & Ad-Hoc Business Support
  • Support stakeholders across Operations, Sales, Payments and other teams with financial analysis and business cases.
  • Assist with pricing, margin, cost optimisation and investment analysis.
  • Support new initiatives, product changes and operational projects from a finance and control perspective.
  • Investigate financial or operational issues, identify root causes and help implement practical solutions.
  • Take ownership of ad-hoc projects as business priorities evolve.
About You
  • Approximately 3–5 years' experience across financial accounting, commercial accounting or finance operations.
  • CA or CPA qualified, recently qualified, or close to completion.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals with exposure to audit, tax and compliance.
  • Comfortable working beyond traditional accounting tasks and taking ownership of operational and project-based work.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with Xero, NetSuite, Power BI or similar systems is highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfortable working with both financial and operational data.
  • Proactive, curious and willing to challenge inefficient processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, while able to balance control with practical business needs.
  • Experience in SaaS, payments, technology or a multi-entity environment is highly regarded.
What Success Looks Like
  • Within 3–6 months: understand the finance operating model, take ownership of key audit and compliance deliverables, and begin improving priority finance processes.
  • Within 6–9 months: independently manage key audit, tax, and compliance workflows, lead finance improvement projects, and contribute meaningfully to budgeting and forecasting.
  • Within 12 months: demonstrate readiness to step into a Finance Manager role, with broader ownership across finance operations, audit, tax, compliance, controls, budgeting, and cross-functional projects.

What we offer

  • Collaborative culture: Work with a practical, hands-on team that values accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
  • Exposure to complex finance operations: Multi-entity consolidation, subsidiary reporting within a multinational group.
  • Potential for growth: As the business scales there's potential for this role to evolve into a larger opportunity.
  • Work that fits your life: Hybrid working (3 days in office), work-from-anywhere policy, generous parental leave, and flexible leave when life happens.
  • Modern workspace: 24/7 access to our WeWork office on Pitt Street with on-site barista and bar, plus optional active lunch breaks, meditation, and yoga sessions.
  • Connect and recharge: Quarterly team social events, monthly virtual entertainment, and a collaborative culture that rewards the right behaviours.
  • Additional perks: Employee referral bonuses and the chance to work with a product customers genuinely love.
