Job Description

About the team and the role

Sydney Airport’s freight operations are undergoing a significant and long‑term transformation to deliver a future‑focused cargo precinct that will support all freight volumes through to 2050.

As our new Commercial Analyst, you will play a critical role in shaping the commercial foundations of the SYD Freight Strategy. Reporting to the Senior Project Director - Freight, you will deliver high‑quality financial modelling, commercial analysis and business case development to support partner negotiations, facility design, revenue growth opportunities and long‑term strategic decision‑making.

Working closely with the Freight Team, Finance, Property, Planning & Delivery, Procurement and Shareholder representatives, you will bring clarity, rigour and insight to one of the most important commercial programs at Sydney Airport.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Develop a deep understanding of SYD’s freight business, current commercial environment and future strategy.
  • Build and refine complex financial models to compare commercial options, test alternative scenarios and inform business case recommendations.
  • Support negotiations with future Cargo Terminal Operators (CTOs) through live commercial modelling and scenario evaluation.
  • Prepare high‑quality analysis and documentation for Senior Leadership and Shareholders that clearly communicates commercial opportunities, risks and impacts.
  • Support commercial assessment of facility design, Agreements for Work, fit‑out challenges and variations.
  • Contribute to the development of the CTO performance scorecard and support modelling for new revenue‑enhancing services.
  • Provide ongoing commercial insights to support long‑term revenue integrity and the implementation of new freight commercial arrangements.
  • Deliver ad‑hoc analysis to inform pricing, commercial terms, business impacts and broader strategic initiatives.

About you

You’re a commercially minded, analytically strong finance professional who can distil complexity into clarity. You thrive in environments where major infrastructure, logistics and commercial strategy intersect.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics or Accounting.
  • CA / CPA or similar professional qualification.
  • Experience as a lead analyst or finance specialist in air freight, major logistics or airport environments.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing complex business cases and presenting financial insights to executives and shareholders.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills, with experience using PowerPoint, ERP systems (Oracle or similar) and data visualisation tools (Power BI desirable).
  • The ability to communicate complex information simply and influence senior stakeholders with confidence.
  • A proactive, organised and collaborative style, with strong problem‑solving abilities and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement, commercial excellence and delivering high‑quality work.
