The opportunity

The Commercial Manager (Subcontracts) will be part of the commercial team within Downer’s Energy & Utilities Power Projects business unit. This role can be located either Hexham, NSW, North Ryde NSW or Brisbane QLD. The successful candidate can envision themselves attending to duties such as: 

What you’ll do

  • Be responsible for the timely and effective administration of the Projects Subcontract Agreements to ensuring that Downer obtains the full benefit of the Subcontract Agreement whilst ensuring our rights are maintained and obligations fulfilled
  • Develop, implement and administer the Subcontracting Commercial Management Plans, Manuals, and Registers required by The Downer Standard and Delivery Management Methodology
  • Manage Subcontract Change, including assessment and negotiation of Subcontract Claims, Variations, and Disputes
  • Administer Subcontract packages to ensure that all Subcontractors are compliant with their contractual obligations, and that the required progress and provision of all deliverables is being achieved in accordance with the Subcontracts
  • Collaborate and provide expert advice and guidance to inform decision making and the implementation of commercial strategies
  • Provide governance, guidance and support in relation to subcontracting and procurement to staff/teams

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Engineering preferred
    10 plus years of experience in a commercial role in construction projects preferably within the power transmission / energy sector
  • Experience with procurement process and subcontractor management and administration
  • Background in the successful negotiation of forms of contract with an acceptable risk profile in accordance with policies and procedures
  • A high level of verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people including managing relationships with external clients / suppliers / contractors, etc
  • Background in leadership of complex and comprehensive commercial teams
