Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, spanning site selection, development and operations. Our global footprint includes more than 400 datacenters in 34 countries. These facilities form the backbone of the Microsoft Cloud and are central to our commitment to reliable, secure and sustainable digital infrastructure. 

We are looking for a Community Affairs Leader in APAC to focus on Community Communications and Content. In this role, you will lead the community communications strategy to build trust, understanding and support among communities, stakeholders and internal decisionmakers through strategic communications, local narratives and storytelling, stakeholder engagement and reputation management. You will partner with Community Affairs Managers, country and global Communications teams, Public Affairs and internal teams to ensure a consistent, authentic and engaging approach to storytelling and content.  

The Datacenter Community Affairs team secures Microsoft’s ability to build and operate datacenters by proactively managing community, local political and reputational risk while delivering meaningful local value to build and maintain our social licence to operate. Responsibilities

Strategic Communications 

  • Work across teams to support and develop community communications and content strategies across APAC markets. 

  • Develop compelling community-focused narratives that maintain global consistency while highlighting local impact and social value.  

  • Align local narratives and communications priorities with Community Affairs, Communications, Public Affairs and operational objectives. 

Storytelling & Content Creation 

  • Identify and develop high-impact stories across datacenter development, community investment, sustainability, education and skills, innovation and local partnerships.  

  • Translate complex infrastructure, construction and operational activities into clear and engaging stories and information. 

  • Drive coordination of the production of a wide range of content including community impact stories, case studies, stakeholder briefings, blog content, event materials and internal communications. 

  • Build reusable narrative frameworks, messages, templates and toolkits that improve quality and consistency while preserving cultural and local relevance. 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Partner with Community Affairs teams across APAC and with Public Affairs, Communications, policy and operational teams to gather insights and identify storytelling opportunities, moments and channels. 

  • Build trusted relationships across internal stakeholder groups and with external community partners. 

  • Use community insight and stakeholder feedback to inform narrative development, communications planning and internal priorities. 

Community Risk Management 

  • Identify priority and emerging topics for communication through media, social media and stakeholder listening. 

  • Work across teams to develop clear, timely and transparent communications on topics of community interest, including jobs, workforce development, sustainability, construction impacts and local benefits. 

Operational Excellence 

  • Track engagement, storytelling and content performance metrics.  

  • Identify best practices and successful approaches that can be scaled across APAC markets. 

  • Manage agencies and vendors as required, setting clear briefs, timelines, quality standards and measurable outcomes. 

  • Continuously refine content and messaging based on stakeholder feedback and outcomes in partnership with partner teams.  


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, public affairs, community affairs or a related field, or equivalent experience. 

  • Experience in Community Affairs, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline. 

  • Experience developing and executing a communications strategy and program across the APAC region or multiple APAC markets. 

  • Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups and functions. 

  • Experience managing communications or marketing agencies and vendors. 

Preferred 

  • Experience in corporate social responsibility, sustainability, environmental, social and governance or social-impact communications. 

  • Experience using media monitoring, social listening, stakeholder insight and performance data to shape communications priorities. 

  • Understanding of community trust, stakeholder sentiment, reputation and social-licence considerations associated with major infrastructure development. 

Background Check Requirements 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialised security screening: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
