About the role 
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Corporate Counsel – Industrial & Employment to join a high performing legal team supporting a complex and diverse business across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States. This is a permanent, full-time role based in our Alexandria HQ.  
 
This role plays a critical part in providing expert legal advice across employment and industrial relations matters. You will partner closely with the People & Culture team and senior stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, solutions focused advice, manage employment risks, and support strategic initiatives across multiple business units including Fuel Supply Chain, Retail, Future Energy and international operations. 
 
Key responsibilities 

  • Provide expert legal advice on employment and , industrial relations and labour law matters across multiple jurisdictions.  
  • Advise on disputes including unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination and workplace investigations.  
  • Support the People & Culture team on delivering on its enterprise bargaining processes and broader industrial strategy development strategies. 
  • Deliver practical and commercially focused legal guidance to People & Culture and business leaders.  
  • Represent the organisation or support advocacy in employment and industrial tribunalsthe Fair Work Commission and the courts.  
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Fair Work Act, awards, and international frameworks.  
  • Conduct legal research and deliver training or guidance on evolving employment law and regulatory changes  
  • Support key reporting and governance activities including Modern Slavery obligations and ESG related matters.  
  • Contribute to strategic projects including M&A activity, restructures and transformation initiatives  
  • Manage and engage external legal counsel where required, ensuring cost effective outcomes.  
  • Provide support across the legal function in line with the organisation’s risk management framework. 

 
Qualifications & Experience 

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years PQE in employment and industrial relations law  
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian employment law, with exposure to NZ, USA or Singapore frameworks desirable  
  • Experience managing complex employment disputes, investigations and tribunal matters  
  • Strong understanding of enterprise bargaining and industrial strategy  
  • Ability to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders  
  • Experience working in-house or advising large, complex organisations  
  • Strong legal research and analytical capability with the ability to interpret evolving legislation  
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes  
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence across all levels  
  • Experience engaging and managing external counsel
