Job Description

As a Legal Counsel at TAL, you’ll play an important role in helping the business navigate complex legal and regulatory matters with confidence. Partnering closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll provide trusted advice that supports sound decision making, protects our customers and enables TAL to deliver on its purpose of helping Australians live a life filled with choices, options and freedoms. This is a meaningful opportunity to combine legal expertise with commercial impact while contributing to a business that makes a genuine difference in people’s lives.

In This Role You Will:

  • Provide trusted legal advice that enables sound decision making across claims, underwriting and business operations.
  • Manage complex disputes and litigation to protect TAL’s interests and customer outcomes.
  • Guide the resolution of AFCA complaints and external disputes in line with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Strengthen compliance by advising on the Life Insurance Code of Practice and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Build legal capability across the business through practical guidance and targeted training.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and legal teams to minimise risk and support commercial objectives.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed term contract.

Qualifications

  • Admission to practise law in Australia with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience
  • Experience within financial services, insurance or a regulated environment
  • Knowledge of insurance law and its practical application in a commercial setting
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders
  • Collaborative, organised and self-motivated approach to managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes
