The Opportunity:

We're hiring a DevOps engineer to support our engineering team on deployment and performance of our software infrastructure and creating a high performance, scalable and secure environment.

Our Values:

  • Committed to Care: We genuinely care about what we do and who we do it for. Our commitment goes beyond delivering results—we're here to help, support, and make a real difference.
  • Human at the Core: Everything we do revolves around people. We prioritize relationships and authentic connections, making sure that empathy is at the heart of our work.
  • Different with Purpose: We’re not afraid to stand out. Being different isn’t a gimmick; it’s a reflection of our commitment to innovation, creativity, and doing things in our own way, with clear intentions behind every choice.
  • Legal Through and Through: We are passionate about the legal industry. We stay ahead of trends by constantly innovating, and we’re crazy enough to believe we can reshape the industry.

In 2024, we were recognised by Deloitte and the Australian Financial Review as one of the fastest growing technology companies in Australia. We’re backed by the best VCs in Australia and around the globe including EVP, Shearwater Capital, Saniel Ventures and The LegalTech Fund as well as angels from the best law firms in the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Infrastructure Design and Management: Architect and maintain scalable, high-availability cloud infrastructure on AWS, Heroku, Digital Ocean, and Azure. Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources, including servers, databases, and storage, ensuring alignment with application requirements and performance goals across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Automation of Deployment Pipelines: Build and optimize automated deployment processes to enable rapid, reliable application updates and releases. Utilize tools like CircleCI, AWS CodePipeline, Heroku’s Git-based deployment, Digital Ocean’s Droplet scalability features, and Azure DevOps to create efficient CI/CD pipelines that minimize downtime and ensure consistency.
  • Observability and Monitoring: Implement robust observability and monitoring solutions using native tools from AWS (e.g., CloudWatch), Heroku, Digital Ocean, and Azure, as well as third-party tools where applicable. Proactively monitor application performance, resource utilization, and system health, analyzing metrics to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and ensure high availability.
  • Networking and Security: Apply a strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancers, firewalls, and VPNs, to design secure and efficient cloud architectures. Implement security best practices across platforms, including network access controls, secure authentication, data encryption (at rest and in transit), and regular system updates to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Cost Optimization: Monitor and manage cloud expenditures across AWS, Heroku, Digital Ocean, and Azure to ensure cost-effectiveness. Use platform-specific cost management tools and best practices to select optimal service plans, scale resources dynamically, and eliminate underutilized assets while maintaining performance and scalability.

Our Technology Stack:

  • Cloud Providers: AWS, Heroku, Digital Ocean, Azure
  • IAC & Configuration: Terraform
  • Observability: AWS CloudWatch, Grafana, New Relic, Rollbar
  • Databases: Postgres, MongoDB, MySQL
  • Front End: React, TypeScript
  • Backend: Ruby on Rails, Python, FastApi, GraphQL

What You'll Bring:

  • 💡 Deep Expertise: Deploying and managing enterprise cloud infrastructure, security, and developer experience.
  • 🧠 Problem Solver: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to translate business requirements into efficient code.
  • 🤝 Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, from design to deployment.
  • 🚀 Tenancious Troubleshooter: A proven troubleshooting methodology. Understand many foundational technologies and security protocols down to their fundamentals and use that background to quickly and effectively troubleshoot.
  • 🛠️ Infrastructure Focus: Experience building and maintaining pipelines for infrastructure following infrastructure as code principles (IAC).
  • B2B SaaS Experience: 3+ years experience in a B2B SaaS startup or technology company.
  • 🎯 Bonus: Prior experience managing vendor relationships to leverage value and deliver cost efficiencies

The Work Culture at Nexl:

  • Highly transparent with fortnightly (twice a month) all-company meetings - with direct insight into team updates, customer stories, hiring plans and key metrics (NPS, Revenue, Financial Performance).
  • You will have a core and close team around you, but you will also be exposed to and working directly with multiple departments - engineering, product, design, marketing and sales.
  • We're a remote-first culture with the ability to work at a co-working space if desired.
  • A work-life balance you won’t find elsewhere.
  • Ability to participate in our Employee Stock Option Plan.
