About the Role

Our specialist financial management consultants help clients establish, improve, review or reposition their finance functions, creating appropriately scaled teams and operating models that support organisational success. 

BDO Australia also has one of the country’s largest technical accounting practices. Our specialists help businesses address complex financial reporting and accounting matters, drawing on expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). 

About the Opportunity 

We are seeking a Senior Finance Professional to join our CFO Advisory team in Sydney. In this role, you will partner with CFOs and finance leaders to navigate change, address complex finance and reporting challenges, and respond to evolving regulatory requirements with practical, commercially focused solutions. You will bring broad experience across financial reporting frameworks, AASB/IFRS concepts, finance transformation and governance to help clients strengthen their finance functions. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Client Service & Advisory Delivery 

  • Lead the delivery of complex CFO Advisory engagements from scoping through to execution and closure. 
  • Provide strategic advice to CFOs and finance leaders on finance function effectiveness, governance, operating models and transformation initiatives. 
  • Lead finance transformation programs, including process improvement, organisational design and finance capability uplift. 
  • Deliver technical accounting, financial reporting and IFRS advisory services to clients. 

Business Development & Practice Growth 

  • Develop and maintain strong client and referral networks. 
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to revenue growth across CFO Advisory and the broader Advisory practice. 
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, tenders and client presentations. 

Climate-related Financial Disclosures 

  • Assist clients operationalise and embed climate reporting requirements, particularly around financial modelling, data collection and data integrity, forecasting, business performance analysis, finance governance, process design and integration into finance systems 

Leadership & People Development 

  • Lead, mentor and develop Managers, Assistant Managers, Senior Consultants and Consultants. 
  • Drive a high-performance and collaborative team culture. 
  • Provide coaching, technical guidance and performance feedback. 
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning and capability development initiatives. 

Practice Management 

  • Oversee engagement economics, budgeting, resource planning and profitability. 
  • Monitor project risks and ensure compliance with BDO's quality and risk management framework. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning and operational management of the CFO Advisory service line. 

 

 About You  

We are looking for a commercially minded individual who is passionate about building and leading high-performing teams, has a natural ability to identify and capitalise on opportunities and can help shape and commercialise new CFO Advisory offerings 

Combined with: 

  • CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification 
  • Extensive experience managing and delivering finance functions, financial reporting, governance, controls, process improvement and finance transformation 
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and corporate reporting requirements, with an appreciation of climate-related reporting and its interaction with finance processes 
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders 
  • Proven track record in business development, client relationship management and revenue generation. 
  • Proven people leadership capability, with experience coaching and developing teams 
  • Experience leading large, multidisciplinary project teams 
  • An understanding of how sustainability-related information informs financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, performance management, and corporate reporting (IFRS) will be highly valued.
