About the role

As Director, Commercial Strategy, you'll own the future growth path for Halter. You'll set the commercial strategy that accelerates adoption, unlocks new markets, and helps us win before competitors even see us coming — and you'll roll up your sleeves to make it happen.

Reporting to the VP Commercial, this is a senior leadership role and a deeply hands-on one. You'll be a key partner to the VP and the wider commercial leadership group, helping shape where Halter plays and how we win — and then doing the work to get there. You'll build and lead a small, high-calibre team over time, but you'll lead from the front: in the model, in the field, and in the detail. This is a player-coach role, not a hands-off one.

You'll move fluidly between the strategy and the paddock — one moment framing a market-entry thesis, the next on the ground with farmers and ranchers pressure-testing it in reality, the next going deep with finance on our CAC model.

This is a rare opportunity to shape one of the most transformative companies in agriculture, lead our most important commercial decisions, and leave your fingerprints on the trajectory of the entire company.

What your day could look like
  • Lead and continuously evolve Halter's commercial strategy - where we play, how we win, and where we place our biggest bets across markets, channels, and segments. You set the commercial strategy and the priorities; then lead your team and partners to execute against them.

  • Be the go-to strategic partner to the VP Commercial on Halter's most consequential commercial decisions.

  • Build and coach a small, high-performing Commercial Strategy team - while staying hands-on in the work yourself.

  • Do the work - build the models, write the narratives, and run the analysis yourself, not just direct others to.

  • Lead the most complex, cross-functional bets across GTM, Product, and Ops - from new-market entry to new channels and partnerships.

  • Own market intelligence and competitive strategy - anticipating shifts, farmer needs, and macro trends to keep Halter several moves ahead.

  • Set the long-term frameworks for how Halter monetises new capabilities and enters new markets, and hold the org accountable to them.

  • Define and stand up Halter's strategic partnership strategy - identifying, structuring, and scaling the partnership models that unlock new distribution, data, and revenue.

  • Build the financial backbone for big decisions: Opportunity sizing, scenario analysis, and the structures that drive crisp decision-making.

  • Turn complex, ambiguous problems into clear narratives and decisions for leaders and frontline teams.

  • Drive adoption end-to-end - ensuring strategies don't just get approved, but get executed, measured, and improved across the business.

What we're looking for
  • You're a seasoned commercial strategist who builds real-world engines, not just frameworks, playbooks, and pitch decks.

  • You can crack the messiest, highest-stakes problems, build the model that reveals the answer, and then mobilise the organisation to move.

  • You're deeply commercial. You understand the levers - growth, pricing, unit economics, partnerships, market entry - and you know how and when to pull them.

  • You're a doer first. You'd rather build the model and ship the v1 yourself than delegate it - and your team learns by watching you set the standard.

  • You can build and coach a small team as the function grows, while staying a strong individual contributor in your own right.

  • You earn the trust of senior leaders quickly and can influence decisions without needing positional authority - but you're equally happy in the weeds doing the work.

  • Ambiguity doesn't scare you; you run toward it. You think clearly, communicate crisply, and turn complex ideas into simple, actionable stories people rally behind.

  • You've got range and altitude. One day you're framing a multi-year market thesis; the next you're in the spreadsheet or unblocking sales so the strategy actually lands.

  • You're a champion of cross-functional collaboration - across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Ops - and you make everyone around you sharper.

You'll crush this gig if you
  • Lead from the front - set the strategy, build the team over time, and own the outcome end-to-end. You don't wait for perfect clarity.

  • Operate with dynamic range and altitude - equally at home setting multi-year direction and diving into a messy model or a fire-drill before lunch.

  • Model fast and beautifully - Excel or Sheets is second nature. Your files are tidy, editable, and give clear answers without a 20-minute tour.

  • Tell a tight story - whether it's a one-pager, a Loom, or a leadership update, you make the complex feel simple and the path forward feel inevitable.

  • Build and grow people - you can hire and coach a small team, and you make the people around you better.

  • Influence without ego - you build trust quickly and people loop you in early because you make their lives easier.

  • Think big, start small - you spot the long-term angle but aren't afraid to test with a scrappy v1 today.

  • Thrive in speed and ambiguity - startups, consulting, high-growth SaaS, agtech, hardware - wherever you've been, you got sh*t done with half the info.

Bonus points if
  • Experience in top-tier strategy consulting (Manager/Principal level) and/or a high-impact internal strategy or commercial team.

  • You've helped build or scale a commercial strategy function.

  • Exposure to agtech, SaaS, or hardware businesses, ideally through a period of rapid growth or international expansion.

  • Track record of shipping strategies - and building capability - that out-live you.
