At ING, we’re driven by a simple purpose: to make life easier and more fulfilling—for our customers, our people, and the communities we serve. We’ve nurtured a culture that is open, energizing, and supportive—one where authenticity is valued, and everyone is empowered to contribute their best. As we look ahead, we are investing in a bold, enterprise-wide transformation to elevate our technology, strengthen our business capabilities, and accelerate sustainable growth.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Domain Architecture, the Domain Architect – Retail banking (with focus on consumer lending, payments, & digital channels) will lead the technology vision and deliver scalable, business‑aligned architecture. You drive solution design, define clear roadmaps, and ensure every initiative is built on strong enterprise principles with minimal technical debt.

You’ll be creating adaptable, end‑to‑end architecture and translating business goals into actionable features. You’ll Partner with Enterprise Architecture and key business stakeholders to drive sustainable solutions—proactively shaping new principles, championing best practices, and ensuring strong alignment across the organization.
If you’re ready to do your thing, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll do …

  • Lead end‑to‑end solution design for the domain, delivering clear, scalable architectures aligned with business goals and enterprise standards.

  • Define and enforce design principles, ensuring solutions meet performance, security, and stability requirements while minimizing technical debt.

  • Own architecture roadmaps and QBR contributions, maintaining visibility of current and future state with clear dependencies.

  • Collaborate with architects, stakeholders, and delivery teams to align designs, present solutions, and enable seamless execution.

  • Drive early-stage estimations, risk identification, and dependency management to support informed business decisions.

  • Champion best practices, manage architecture governance and repositories, and continuously improve design quality, compliance, and maintainability.

What we’re looking for….

  • Strong expertise in solution architecture frameworks, cloud design, and modern patterns (microservices, event-driven, REST/SOAP).

  • Deep understanding of non-functional requirements—performance, resilience, security, and scalability.

  • Proven experience (7+ years) delivering enterprise-grade solutions, ideally in financial services.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills across business and IT.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving mindset with hands-on knowledge of development and architecture practices.

What’s in it for you?

  • Discounted ING Health Insurance.

  • An additional Rest Day to support your wellbeing.

  • An IMPACT Day to volunteer on approved sustainability activity.
