Our people are: Accountable, customer-obsessed, collaborative, driven

Our people are not: Passive, defensive, siloed, hesitant

About the Role

As the Engineering Manager, Personalisation, you will lead the team building BrightWrite’s personalisation systems: the engine that decides which protection to offer and how to present it to each customer across our partners’ platforms. Your team’s work runs on millions of live customer journeys a day, so decisions made there show up directly in conversion and customer experience.

You will have built real-time decisioning or recommendation systems in production, run them through rigorous experimentation, and worked closely with data scientists to turn models into reliable services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers building BrightWrite’s personalisation systems, fostering technical excellence, ownership and psychological safety in line with Cover Genius values.

  • Own the technical roadmap and architecture for personalisation, covering A/B testing, offer selection, and contextual bandit experiments.

  • Build and scale the experimentation capability behind personalisation

  • Partner with Data Science to take models from research into production, including model serving, model registry and evaluation infrastructure.

  • Ensure the platform meets its SLOs for latency, availability and reliability.

  • Establish engineering and operational excellence through observability, CI/CD, IaC, testing and data quality standards.

  • Ensure personalisation operates within regulatory, compliance and partner constraints.

  • Be accountable, alongside Product, for the measurable impact of personalisation on customers and partners.

Skills & Experience:

What you will bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in software, data or ML engineering, and 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • A track record of building recommendation, ranking or real-time decisioning systems in production at scale.

  • Strong grounding in experimentation design and analysis, with experience building or operating experimentation platforms.

  • Hands-on MLOps experience in production, including model serving, feature pipelines and model monitoring.

  • In-depth experience with Python (Django or FastAPI), Kubernetes and Terraform, ideally on GCP.

What you will have:

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills. You know how to inspire, motivate and develop a team of technical experts.

  • Product and commercial instinct. You think about the customer’s moment of decision and the partner’s outcome.

  • Judgement about when ML or AI earns its place and when a simple rule or heuristic is the better answer. You prefer pragmatic engineering over trend-driven solutions.

  • Integrity to hold a privacy or compliance line under commercial pressure.

  • A strategic mindset. You align personalisation initiatives with business goals and manage stakeholder expectations across engineering, data science and product teams.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and a deep sense of ownership, from technical architecture through to team performance and product outcomes.

  • Self-motivation and reliability, with the ability to drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
