Engineering Manager

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technology team in Sydney, and are currently looking for an Engineering Manager to join the team.
As an Engineering Manager at VGW, you will lead a team of engineers to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions while fostering a strong technical culture. You’ll be hands-on in guiding architectural decisions, ensuring engineering excellence, and shaping the team’s growth, balancing technical leadership with people management to drive innovation and impact.

In terms of our tech stack, we host our docker containerised apps on AWS, sometimes in ECS but moving to EKS Kubernetes. In the containers, we run Kotlin on the JVM. TypeScript runs our client side where it’s mostly React. Our databases are PostgreSQL and DynamoDB with Snowflake as our Data warehouse.
What you will bring to the role:
- Proven experience leading and growing high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Deep expertise in building scalable and distributed systems, with a strong foundation in JVM-based development, cloud-native architectures, infrastructure as code, and containerisation.
- A strong technical leadership mindset, balancing hands-on involvement with architectural oversight to drive innovation while maintaining system reliability and performance.
- A track record of aligning engineering execution with product and business goals, ensuring technical solutions are scalable, maintainable, and deliver meaningful value.
- Passion for mentoring engineers, developing career pathways, and cultivating a team environment that thrives on ownership, learning, and technical excellence.
- A strategic problem-solving approach, with the ability to anticipate challenges, drive operational efficiency, and ensure seamless delivery of high-quality software solutions.
