Job Summary

We are seeking an Associate or Vice President in Equity Research to join our Number 1 Ranked Insurance and Diversified Financials Team1. You will be responsible for developing differentiated investment and strategic insights into the covered sectors, forecasting financial prospects using excel models, producing high-quality written research (including thematic deep-dives as well as company notes), and engaging with institutional investors and top level company management teams.

The role requires deep analytical capability, good ability to use generative AI, strong financial modeling skills, good writing skills, and an ability to identify industry trends and company-specific catalysts across a broad universe of insurers, wealth managers, exchanges, financial technology companies, asset managers, mortgage providers, and other diversified financial institutions. You will work closely with the Senior Analyst to deliver timely, actionable, and market-leading research to institutional clients.


Job Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, forecasts, and valuation frameworks across the Insurance and Diversified Financials coverage universe.
  • Help the team develop use cases for Generative AI across the broader Asia Pacific Franchise (which is one of the team’s key responsibilities)
  • Analyse company earnings, regulatory developments, capital management initiatives, industry trends, M&A activity, and other market developments impacting sector performance.
  • Develop investment recommendations, earnings forecasts, ratings, and target prices supported by rigorous fundamental analysis.
  • Draft research publications including earnings previews and reviews, company updates, thematic reports, sector deep-dives, and industry thought leadership pieces.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of key sector drivers including premium growth, claims trends, capital adequacy, ROE, solvency, asset allocation, funds under management, net inflows, transaction volumes, and operating leverage.
  • Monitor industry developments including regulatory reforms, competitive dynamics, investment market trends, insurance pricing cycles, superannuation flows, and capital market activity.
  • Support institutional client engagement through meetings, conference calls, investor marketing, and responses to client enquiries.
  • Build and maintain relationships with company management teams, industry participants, investors, and internal stakeholders across Sales & Trading and Corporate Access.
  • Ensure strong governance around model integrity, research processes, documentation, and compliance standards.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing research culture.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience in Equity Research or a related analytical role such as actuarial, investment management, corporate finance, investment banking, or strategy.
  • Understanding of Insurance and/or Diversified Financials sectors, including key valuation methodologies and industry drivers.
  • AI / Programming / LLM skills
  • Advanced financial statement analysis and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Experience analysing complex financial institutions, capital structures, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate investment views clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commercial judgment, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop differentiated investment views and actionable recommendations.
  • High integrity and strong awareness of compliance and regulatory requirements applicable to research activities.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Direct sector experience covering Insurance, Wealth & Asset Management, Exchanges, Diversified Financials, FinTech, Specialty Finance, or related verticals.
  • Actuarial,CFA designation and/or MBA or equivalent advanced qualification.
  • Established relationships with institutional investors and corporate management teams.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Visible Alpha, and other market data and research platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Australian and broader APAC Financials landscape.
