Challenger Limited is an ASX-listed investment management firm managing $131 billion in assets (as at 31 December 2024). Life with us is fast moving and always exciting. Together we’re driving to deliver our vision to provide our customers with financial security for a better retirement.

We achieve this goal by providing a work environment where people from diverse backgrounds, with a range of skills and experiences can contribute and succeed.

Join us as a Finance Manager in our Funds Management Financial Control team

  • This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-impact Finance Manager role within our Funds Management (FM) Finance team.

  • It’s a broad and hands-on role that balances stakeholder engagement with ownership of complex financial control and accounting— giving you real visibility across the business while continuing to build your leadership capability.

  • We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD Office where you can expect to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

What you’ll do

As Finance Manager, you’ll take full ownership of financial control and accounting for your part of the FM business, supporting both internal entities and boutique affiliate fund managers. This role will have a key focus on our UK and European businesses as well as our some of our domestic corporate and affiliates entities.

This is a high-visibility role with exposure to leadership and Boards, as well as senior Group stakeholders. You’ll drive a culture of continuous improvement and ensure key finance systems (including Workday and Workiva) are used effectively.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Managing the month-end close and year-end reporting processes for FM entities.

  • Owning the rebate process and managing the associated calculation systems.

  • Preparing and presenting financial results at affiliate Board meetings, including coordination of all supporting materials and approvals.

  • Coordinating the external audit process, including proactive issue resolution and timely deliverables.

  • Acting as a finance business partner to boutique principals, Group Finance, Legal, CoSec , and external auditors — building trusted relationships and delivering clear, value-added insights.

The skills you’ll need

We’re looking for a hands-on, technically strong finance manager with deep financial control and accounting experience. You’ll be proactive, pragmatic, and able to take ownership of the detail — not just oversee it.

You’ll have a CA/CPA qualification and around 4+ years’ post-qualified experience in financial control or senior accounting roles. While experience in funds management is helpful, it’s not essential — we’re open to candidates from any financial services or commercial industry who bring strong financial control experience and a sound understanding of financial statements.

You’ll also have;

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including accounting for tax, and experience across financial and regulatory reporting

  • A hands-on, problem-solving approach, with strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Experience identifying and managing financial risks

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with Workday and Workiva is a bonus, as is a strong interest or background in funds management and investment products.
