Barings is seeking a highly analytical individual with strong technical capability and a passion for learning to join the Barings Real Estate Australia (BREA) Finance Team. The team works collaboratively with other business units and strives to deliver quality service to all partners.

Due to growth of the Australian Real Estate business, the Finance Manager will be responsible for accounting/reporting for a range of Corporate, Fund and Project entities. The role will suit a candidate who is highly adaptable, thrives on problem solving, seeking a hands-on role with international and domestic exposure to different areas of the real estate, funds management and asset management business. This candidate must be a driver of positive change, with a can-do attitude and willing to contribute to building on the strengths of Barings’ organisational culture. This position is located in Sydney, Australia and reports to the Fund Controller and the Head of Finance and Corporate.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and timely Project and Fund reporting including (but not limited to) preparation of monthly consolidated fund financials, quarterly unit price investor reporting and budget/project variance analysis to investors and the business.
  • Deliver accurate and timely corporate reporting including preparation of monthly consolidated financials and budget variance analysis to the Australian Real Estate (RE) business and Asia Pacific head office.
  • Management of statutory reporting, audit, tax compliance, debt management and investment administration across allocated Funds, Project and Corporate entities.
  • Involvement in development of and system administration for accounting systems and cost management systems.
  • Provide technical accounting and tax advisory for corporate entities, Real Estate transactions to the business on matters.
  • Involvement in Development projects and cost accounting.
  • Mentor and train junior members of the team.
  • Quality control review of financial reporting for other funds/projects.
  • Manage compliance risk with regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
  • Cashflow forecasting for funds/projects/corporate.
  • Stay up to date on accounting and tax legislation changes and support the business with relevant updates and training sessions.
  • Ensure fund and corporate operations comply with fund and corporate documentation and internal compliance obligations.
  • Maintenance of Corporate/Fund/Project accounting policies working document and continuous documentation of procedures.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives in the Fund and Corporate operations to ensure continual improvement to the finance team’s procedures and adoption of best practice processes.

Qualifications

  • 8 + years Professional Accounting qualification eg. CA or CPA
  • 10 + years accounting experience.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Team player.
  • Corporate accounting experience essential including corporate tax, TCGs, TFA, GST and FBT.
  • Experience with large accounting systems e.g. MRI and Workday essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (Intermediate-Advanced).
  • Funds management, financial services or property industry exposure highly desirable.
  • People management experience desirable.
