Join us as an Accountant in our Group Financial Control Team.
-
This is a hands-on accounting role for someone early in their career. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you'll be a team player who collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, external trustees, and service providers to deliver financial insights and ensure accurate financial records.
-
You’ll own a growing and dynamic remit of work and have the opportunity to cross skill and upskill. It is expected you will be curious and have ambition to grow and progress within the team and the business over time.
-
Partnering with experienced professionals across the business, you'll value attention to detail, responsiveness and strong communication. You will have the opportunity to make a profound impact developing your business partnering and being a key contributor to ongoing finance system process improvements.
-
We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD office, typically balancing three days in the office with two days from home.
About the role
You'll provide accounting and business support across Challenger’s corporate entities and securitized mortgage Special Purpose Vehicles, taking ownership of end-to-end accounting processes and contributing to broader team deliverables. Your focus will include accurate financial accounting, reporting, compliance, and supporting the preparation of statutory financial statements.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, assist with the ASX-listed annual report for Challenger Limited, and support APRA and ABS reporting as needed.
-
Corporate Accounting: Handle accruals, prepayments, intercompany loans, and tax effect accounting for Challenger Treasury Limited and Artega Investment Administration.
-
Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs): Drive the accounting and business support for a portfolio of whole loan securitised mortgage SPVs, developing your understanding of investment assets and liabilities whilst collaborating with Challenger Mortgage Management as they service the mortgages.
-
External Reporting: Support the preparation of audit files, respond to audit queries, and prepare statutory financial statements and board papers.
-
Process Improvement: Contribute to the development and implementation of more efficient processes and strengthen financial controls.
-
Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in projects like strategic transactions, system implementations, and the onboarding of new mortgage trusts.
The skills you'll need
We’re seeking a proactive and sharp-minded individual with solid foundations in financial accounting and application of IFRS/AASB frameworks. If you're a natural problem solver, enjoy detail, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll be either fully or substantially CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) and have previous experience in a financial control environment either from audit or commerce.
Experience within financial services or financial services engagements is desirable but not required. You will need a willingness to grow and learn in a safe environment with a strong and supportive team.
Additionally, you'll:
-
be proficient in MS Excel, capable of analysing large datasets, and familiar with financial accounting systems like Workday or Dimension (preferred but not essential).
-
have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
-
be systems savvy as you learn the ropes with Workday, Workiva and Dimension.
-
be proactive in identifying process improvements and managing risks.
-
willing to learn key accounting standards and their application in a financial services and investment management setting (e.g. AASB 9 and AASB 13).
In return you’ll get excellent experience working with a talented and diverse group. If you're eager to work in financial control within a dynamic investment management environment, we encourage you to apply.
