About Ofload and Our Mission
FreightTech is one of the most exciting spaces to be in right now, with the opportunity to transform one of the largest industries. Freight in Australia is a $76 billion market, yet it is analogue and has many inefficiencies: 30% of the time, trucks drive empty. Networks lack transparency, data flows are fragmented, and smaller transport operators face barriers to competing with the big players.
At Ofload, we’re changing how the freight industry operates and bringing it into the digital world. We leverage technology, data, and strategic partnerships to connect a growing roster of blue-chip customers with smaller, highly efficient transport operators. By reducing empty truck miles, improving visibility, and optimising supply chains, we’re driving smarter, greener, and more efficient operations that benefit businesses and the environment. As a certified B Corp, we're held to the highest standards of social and environmental performance — and we actively work to keep earning that certification, every three years.
This is more than just logistics - it’s FreightTech: a tech-powered transformation of an industry that is the backbone of the economy and touches everyone’s lives.

About the role:
The Financial Controller will be a cornerstone hire as Ofload enters its next chapter of growth. Reporting directly to the VP, Finance, and sitting within a 20-person finance team, you will own the integrity of our financial reporting, controls, and accounting operations — and play a defining role in building the finance function we need to operate as a mature, high-performing business..
This is not a caretaker role. You will lead our financial close process, build a rigorous control environment, drive technical accounting excellence, and take ownership of complex transactions — from debt facility management to M&A and subsequent integration. You will partner closely with FP&A, Finance Transformation & Operations, and senior leadership to deliver financial insight that drives decisions, not just reports that describe them.
What you'll do:
Leadership & Development
- Manage and develop a team of finance professionals in our Sydney office. Set clear expectations, build development plans, and foster a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement
- Act as a key finance leader, contributing to broader team culture and ways of working as we grow
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own the end-to-end month-end and year-end close process — ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with AASB/IFRS standards
- Deliver board-ready management accounts and variance commentary to the CFO each month
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee the balance sheet
- Partner with FP&A teams to support reporting and planning cycles
Controls, Risk Management & Compliance
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal controls framework appropriate for a scaling FreightTech business
- Lead the annual external audit process as primary liaison with external auditors
- Manage all statutory reporting obligations — including corporate tax, GST/BAS, and payroll tax across entities
- Proactively identify control gaps and drive remediation as business complexity increases
- Strengthen financial controls, risk management frameworks, and audit readiness across all workflows — with an eye toward IPO and acquisition preparedness
- Build and maintain a risk management framework that scales with business complexity, identifying and remediating exposure across financial, operational, and regulatory risk
Treasury, Debt & Technical Accounting
- Own the relationship with our banking partners and manage compliance with our debt facility covenants, reporting obligations, and drawdown mechanics
- Manage cash flow forecasting, FX exposure, and cash management strategy in close partnership with Finance Operations
- Own all technical accounting judgments — including revenue recognition (AASB 15), lease accounting (AASB 16), capitalised development costs (AASB 138), and group consolidation
- Lead corporate structure simplification: entity rationalisation, intercompany framework, and pre-IPO structural clean-up
- Lead financial due diligence for M&A activity, including opening balance sheet preparation and post-close integration accounting
System & Process Improvement
- Lead the NetSuite implementation from a Finance controllership perspective: chart of accounts design, process design, and go-live governance
- Act as business owner for core finance systems including NetSuite, driving configuration improvements and integrations
- Partner with Product, Finance Transformation, and Tech to automate manual workflows and build scalable finance infrastructure
- Lead initiatives that improve reporting quality, reduce close time, and build toward IPO-ready finance operations
Qualification & Skills:
- CA or CPA qualified (or equivalent) with 8+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Minimum 3+ years in a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager, or equivalent leadership capacity
- Proven experience owning financial reporting and controls in a scaling business — ideally in tech, SaaS, or a high-growth industry
- Deep technical accounting knowledge (AASB/IFRS), with hands-on experience in statutory reporting and external audit management
- Strong working knowledge of NetSuite or comparable ERP systems
- A data-led approach to decision-making with a strong issue resolution mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills — able to translate complexity for non-finance audiences
- Hands-on and collaborative — you thrive building things, not just maintaining them
At Ofload we prioritise impact, aptitude and passion, so we’d encourage you to apply if you do not meet all the above criteria. When you apply, please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
