Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It’s a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect.

This role is based in Sydney, and we’re looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely, and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

Frontend roles at Canva can vary a lot from team to team—each offering its own unique challenges and opportunities. You might be crafting rich, interactive experiences in the Canva Editor used by millions, or shaping end-to-end journeys on surfaces like Canva Docs, Presentations, and Websites. You could contribute to cutting-edge Magic Studio features powered by AI, or help launch fast-paced product experiments that drive real impact. With multiple teams hiring frontend engineers, we’d love to learn what excites you most and find the right fit for your passions and strengths.

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve. As a general guide, here’s what a frontend engineer at this level typically focuses on day to day:

• Designing and building user interfaces using modern frontend frameworks
• Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver features that solve real user problems
• Writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code with guidance from more senior engineers
• Contributing to shared libraries, design systems, and reusable components
• Participating in technical discussions, design reviews, and regular team rituals
• Continuously learning and growing your frontend craft in a supportive, high-trust environment

You're probably a match if

• You are experienced building web applications using modern frontend technologies like React and TypeScript
• You have solid JavaScript fundamentals and an understanding of how the web works under the hood
• You’re comfortable working through feature development with guidance—from planning and implementation to testing and release
• You enjoy collaborating in cross-functional teams and are open to feedback that helps you grow
• You care about building accessible, performant, and user-friendly interfaces
• You’re motivated to continuously improve your craft, learn from others, and contribute to shared team success
• You have hands-on experience using AI in coding/programming to drive greater impact
