About the role:

60 years on from our Founder Dick Dusseldorp’s pioneering Triple Bottom Line view, Lendlease has built a reputation of commitment to environment, sustainability, and health, safety, and wellbeing of our staff, subcontractors, and stakeholders, through the development of our industry leading Global Minimum Requirements, and the Incident and Injury Free program.

As the General Manager, Environment, Health and Safety – Development, you will play a critical role in leading the next chapter of Lendlease’s safety story, and will be responsible for leading the EHS function, developing EHS strategy and driving a unified and proactive EHS culture throughout the Development business in Australia, including our supply chain, local community’s and stakeholders, wherever we have a presence.

In this role you will work closely with our Construction and Investment business units and their leadership teams, with the goal of creating a robust and integrated approach to management of EHS starting from investment, conversion, due diligence, design, right through to delivery.

You will also be responsible for establishing, monitoring and the ongoing implementation of the Property EHS systems, processes, goals and key performance indicators and the provision of knowledge, coaching and advice to ensure all legislative and internal minimum requirements are complied with.

Success in this role will depend on your ability to balance reactive compliance monitoring requirements with proactive focus and the development of leading precinct wide strategic EHS initiatives.  This will help to engender a learning culture to ensure that we do not repeat past mistakes and in fact learn from other organisations and their possible failures to continually drive the performance bar higher.

In this role, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Overseeing the implementation of Corporate and Business Strategic EHS Objectives at Development level.

  • Working with key internal and external stakeholders to establish a robust and integrated approach to management of EHS starting from investment, conversion, due diligence, design, right through to delivery.

  • Leading EHS due diligence processes on any ‘new opportunity’ at appropriate stages.

  • Ensuring an effective SLT format and structure is in place for all Development Business Units.

  • Supporting Development Director of Operations in facilitating SLT meetings.

  • Supporting Development Management teams in delivering world class EHS performance across our leading development projects.

  • Oversee the rollout of the Cultural EHS programme across the development businesses.

  • Providing EHS advice on legislative and GMR standards and solutions.

  • Implement and facilitate behavioural, cultural, and technical competency educational programs.

  • Develop an overarching business wide EHS assurance programme to monitor EHS compliance.

  • Strive for the Development businesses to be recognised as a considerate developer in all our interfaces with public and external stakeholders by promoting community of care principles.

  • Coordination and implementation of the external stakeholder engagement initiative to proactively engage and educate key stakeholders around the principles of EH&S and the Incident and Injury free principles.

  • Oversee a rollout of Health and Wellbeing initiatives across the business. Ensure any such initiatives are coordinated with other functions (e.g. sustainability, HR and foundation).

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum 5-10 years’ experience of delivering EH&S management within development, construction, or asset operations at senior management level, ideally from within a “matrix” organisation, with experience on large-scale urban development, and/or construction projects.

  • To be a recognised leader with the ability to inspire a proactive, collaborative, and learning culture with the Development, and wider Lendlease Business.

  • The ability to drive change at strategic and frontline levels, whilst also being “hands on” and managing operational responsibilities.

  • A Degree or diploma qualifications in Environment, Health & Safety Management (or related field).

  • Experience in the delivery of workplace based EHS training including assessment of participants against identified learning objectives (preferably hold Cert IV in Workplace Training & Assessment).

  • An understanding of managing environmental compliance including statutory reporting requirements on development and asset operations.

  • An understanding of the management of ISO 14001 & 18001 compliant management systems.

  • To promote a positive team environment and bring a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • To show integrity, credibility, and respect and work to the highest ethical standards, in-line with Lendlease Core Values.

  • Bring exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong and dynamic approach.
