About the business, role and team

The Reserve Bank of Australia plays a central role in maintaining the nation’s economic and financial stability.

This role leads the Bank’s procurement and supplier management function at a critical point of organisational focus on value, accountability and delivery. Procurement is a key enabler of the Bank’s purpose – supporting better decisions, strong stewardship, and effective use of public resources.

As Head of Procurement, you will shape how the Bank sources, manages and partners with suppliers to deliver enterprise value. You will lead a team responsible for strategy, sourcing, contract management and supplier governance, while engaging senior leaders across the Bank to embed procurement as a trusted, value-adding partner.

About the role

  • Lead and enable procurement transformation through the effective use of technology, data and emerging tools (including AI), embedding new ways of working that improve efficiency, insight and decision‑making across the Bank
  • Set and lead a clear enterprise vision for procurement as a strategic enabler of value, not simply a compliance function
  • Partner with senior leaders to strengthen accountability for sourcing, contract management and supplier performance across the Bank
  • Drive procurement and supplier management strategies that deliver value for money, manage risk and support the Bank’s objectives
  • Elevate contract and supplier management capability to ensure the Bank realises value over the full lifecycle, not just at sourcing
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across the Bank to influence decision-making and support better commercial outcomes
  • Lead, coach and inspire a high-performing team, building capability in contemporary procurement practices, including digital, data-driven and AI-enabled approaches, and embedding change across procurement and the broader organisation
  • Oversee procurement frameworks, policies and processes that are clear, practical and aligned to Commonwealth requirements
  • Ensure adherence to the PGPA Act and Commonwealth Procurement Rules, while maintaining a focus on outcomes and value

About you

  • A strategic leader with a clear point of view on how procurement creates enterprise value, including through modern, technology-enabled approaches
  • Demonstrated experience leading transformation through technology, with the ability to identify and embed opportunities to use data, automation and AI to improve outcomes and ways of working
  • An exceptional communicator and influencer, with the ability to engage and align senior stakeholders across a complex organisation
  • A trusted advisor who brings clarity, challenge and insight to executive decision-making
  • An inspirational people leader, able to uplift capability and motivate both teams and stakeholders to see procurement as an enabler
  • Strong commercial judgement and negotiation capability, with a focus on enabling teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes while building enduring, trusted relationships
  • Proven experience leading procurement and supplier management functions at scale, including contract and supplier performance management
  • Understanding of public sector procurement frameworks, including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, with the judgment to apply them pragmatically
  • High integrity, sound judgement and a strong commitment to stewardship of public resources
