The opportunity

The Head of Underwriting, Farm leads the strategic direction, product design, and distribution framework for Elders Insurance Underwriting Agency (EIUA) Farm Underwriting Segment, ensuring profitable growth, a positive customer experience, and compliance with underwriting standards.  

The role involves driving profitable growth of Farm embedded insurance through understanding risk appetite, articulating criteria, applying risk appetite to partnerships, and evolving products to support the development of an embedded insurance offering in the farm market. Additionally, the role includes implementing business development strategies, monitoring underwriting results, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines.

Your new role

As Head of Underwriting, Farm you key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage EIUA’s Farm portfolio to lead the attainment of underwriting results for new and existing business. 
  • Develop, deliver, and drive an effective and profitable product strategy. 
  • Implement and maintain risk control, underwriting, and systems and procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry codes, and company policies. 
  • Manage the risk acceptance process within the delegation of authority and underwriting philosophy. 
  • Oversee the development of new/tailored products and systems to meet customer needs and respond to changes. 
  • Maintain proper, adequate, and effective underwriting risk records. 
  • Establish and implement underwriting authorities, roles, and responsibilities. 
  • Lead by example within the team, contributing to a high-performance culture. 

About you

To be successful as Head of Underwriting, Farm you will have experience in a similar Leadership role within Underwriting. You will also have: 

  • Previous experience in Insurance Leadership role, with a working knowledge of Farm and Agribusiness
  • Ability to influence decision makers both internally and externally 
  • Ability to interpret market and economic changes and their potential impact on Farm and Agribusiness sector
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant industry regulations, e.g. NCCP, Privacy Act and Insurance Contracts Act
