Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced Heritage Specialist to join our growing NSW / ACT Heritage team. In this role, you’ll bring your cultural heritage expertise to meaningful projects while helping shape and strengthen GHD’s heritage capability and service offering across NSW & ACT.

This is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career as part of GHD’s NSW and ACT Impact Assessment team, and to join a well-established nationally coordinated Heritage team. You’ll contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across NSW and potentially further afield in Australia, working on assignments that vary in scale, complexity and community impact.
You’ll have the opportunity to lead client projects, share your knowledge with emerging professionals and, if it aligns with your goals, develop toward future people leadership.
Based in Sydney, Canberra or any of GHD's regional NSW offices, this role offers genuine flexibility and autonomy. You’ll be supported to focus on the areas of heritage practice that interest you most and to build a career that reflects your strengths, aspirations and values.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, your role will include:

  • Providing practical heritage advice and supporting approvals processes for a diverse range of projects across NSW, ACT and nationally.
  • Supporting and leading projects across property and buildings, transport, water, energy and resources, and environment sectors.
  • Investigating and reporting on a wide range of heritage matters, including statutory approvals and engagement with Traditional Owners, through field and desktop-based work.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients, internal specialists, sub-consultants, Commonwealth and State Government departments, agencies and local councils.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of the team’s technical capability through coaching, knowledge sharing and mentorship.
  • Working on meaningful projects alongside respected specialists in heritage and environmental consulting.

What will you bring to the team?

  • A Bachelor’s degree, with Honours or postgraduate qualifications in archaeology, Aboriginal heritage, cultural heritage management or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience working in Australian cultural heritage assessment and management
  • Strong experience in heritage approvals processes in NSW and the ACT, ideally gained across a range of projects and clients.
  • Experience working with heritage legislation and approvals frameworks in other states or territories would be highly regarded.
  • Consulting experience, with the ability to build positive client relationships and contribute to business development opportunities.
  • Strong people and project leadership skills, with a collaborative approach to supporting team growth and project outcomes.

We’re open to discussing full-time or part-time options (minimum 0.7 FTE)
