Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated HSE Manager – NSW & NZ who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Sydney, Australia.

You will play a key role in securing and delivering major rail and infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Director HSE APAC, you will lead HSE performance for NSW and NZ while acting as lead HSE representative on the current High-Speed Rail and other strategic bids, Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC) accreditation and High Reliability Organisation (HRO) initiatives.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded HSE leader who enjoys both operational excellence and pre-contract work. You will partner with bid, engineering, construction, and commercial teams to develop winning HSE strategies for major rail projects. 
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HSE across NSW and NZ operations and projects.

  • Act as HSE lead for major bids and tenders, developing methodologies, HSE strategy, client submissions and support contractor prequalification.

  • Lead obtaining and maintaining FSC accreditation and drive compliance with legal, contract and Hitachi requirements.

  • Embed High Reliability principles across projects and teams with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Provide leadership, coaching and strategic HSE advice and reports to senior management. 

Required skills and knowledge:

  • You are a highly credible and competent HSE professional who thrives in complex project environments and can influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • 7+ years' HSE leadership experience within rail, infrastructure, construction or engineering.

  • Demonstrated success supporting major bids, tenders, alliances or project pursuits.

  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk management, assurance and governance. 

  • Experience with FSC accreditation highly regarded.

  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and present confidently to clients and bid teams.

  • Degree-qualified in WHS, Environmental Management.
