Job Description

This is a critical, client-facing opportunity to act as the lead technical expert on a major transformation program. You will be responsible for executing a complex project to migrate our client's critical workloads from a Nutanix AHV environment to VMware vSphere/ESXi. This project is key to modernising their virtual infrastructure, and you will be at the forefront of delivering tangible improvements in performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Your mission will be to lead the end-to-end technical migration. This includes collaborating with architecture, networking, and storage teams to design and validate the migration strategy, developing detailed runbooks, and creating robust risk assessment and rollback procedures. You will be hands-on in executing the migration, troubleshooting compatibility issues, and ensuring minimal disruption to business. Post-migration, you will be responsible for optimising the new environment and acting as the key technical contact for the client, guiding them through the process and providing technical leadership to the wider project team.

Qualifications

  • Infrastructure Engineering Experience: Proven experience in a similar virtualization and infrastructure engineering role, demonstrating expertise in complex enterprise environments.
  • Core Hypervisor Proficiency: Expert, hands-on experience with both Nutanix AHV and VMware vSphere/ESXi platforms, including architectural understanding and operational support.
  • Virtualization Fundamentals: Strong foundational understanding of hypervisor architecture, Virtual Machine (VM) lifecycle management, and integrated storage and network virtualization principles.
  • Migration Tooling Expertise: Practical experience utilizing key migration and management tools such as Nutanix Move, VMware Converter, vCenter, and scripting languages (e.g., PowerCLI, Python) for automation.
  • Business Continuity Focus: Familiarity with backup/recovery solutions and designing effective disaster recovery (DR) strategies within virtualized environments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills to effectively guide clients and collaborate with technical teams.
  • On-Premises Hardware Exposure: Experience supporting traditional on-premises hardware and networking components (e.g., Cisco, HPE).
  • Automation & Orchestration: Exposure to modern infrastructure automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Certifications: Possession of relevant industry certifications (e.g., VMware Certified Professional - VCP, Nutanix Certified Professional - NCP) is highly valued.
