Are you ready to join the Information Technology (IT) Department and play a pivotal role in transforming risk management at the Reserve Bank of Australia?

We are seeking a Technology risk professional to join us in a strategic Line 1 role, supporting the IT Department leaders to uplift risk culture and progressively mature our risk management practices.

Reporting to the Manager Technology Risk and Assurance, this role is designed to enhance our management of material technology risks (infrastructure, applications, service delivery, operational resilience) and ensure we stay ahead in an ever-evolving risk landscape.

The position will involve substantial liaison with teams in IT Department and in other departments in the Bank (e.g. Enterprise Risk and Compliance).

About the role

  • Provide subject matter expertise, coaching, training and/or guidance to support the IT Department to implement (meet) a target uplift in technology risk management practices.

  • As part of a team of risk professionals, ensure business operations and risk management practices align to the frameworks, policies, standards, risk strategy, regulatory obligations, and risk appetite of the RBA.

  • Provide risk expertise to the IT Department in the identification and assessment of technology risks to achieve business objectives.

  • Support the IT Department to develop and implement adequate controls to mitigate material technology risk exposures.  Provide subject matter expertise to the risk and control owners in the IT Department to test the effectiveness of key controls.

  • Provide risk expertise to the business in the development of credible action plans to address gaps in the departments’ control environment.

  • Provide risk expertise to the business in the identification, logging and management of risks, controls, issues and incidents within the Risk Management System (RMS) to acceptable quality standards.

  • Provide risk advice in the assessment, root cause analysis and remediation of technology-related operational risk incidents.

  • Support the preparation of reporting and analytics to build awareness and transparency of material risk exposures. 

  • Track the remediation of actions to address identified risk and control deficiencies.

  • Ensure the quality of risk data within the RBA’s risk management system by monitoring and reporting on data hygiene.

About you

  • 5 years + experience in a Line 1 or Line 2 operational risk and compliance role, preferably within banking or financial services.

  • Understanding of industry frameworks.

  • Demonstrated risk management expertise, supporting the learning and development of business stakeholders.

  • Experience in design, build and implementation of risk and compliance frameworks, coaching and training.

  • Understanding of enterprise-wide risk and compliance management frameworks, policies and standards. 

  • Experience in uplifting operational resilience and implementing operational risk management standards in an APRA‑regulated organisation is highly desirable.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, risk, compliance or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and resolution management skills.
