The Junior Database Administrator (Junior DBA) plays a key role in supporting the stability, performance, and security of Aristocrat’s CXS database environments.
This role supports the Database and Quality Assurance Manager in delivering Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT). It ensures all database components are production-ready, optimised, and aligned with operational standards.
Working closely with QA, DevOps, Projects, and Operations, the Junior DBA helps validate database processes, solve issues, and contribute to long-term capacity and performance planning.
A core focus of the role is maintaining database reliability for customer venues and internal systems by supporting performance testing, security checks, documentation updates, and ongoing operational support.
What You'll DoAssist the Database & QA Manager with day-to-day database operations, OAT activities, and optimisation initiatives.
Assist in OAT activities to ensure every part of the database system meets operational readiness, supportability, and maintainability standards.
Validate that database operational procedures function accurately under production-like conditions.
Support performance and load testing to confirm the database can handle encouraged production volumes.
Support prioritisation by monitoring growth, analysing trends, and forecasting future requirements.
Provide first-level support for customer database issues, advancing where required.
Monitor database health, alerts, and routine checks to proactively identify performance risks or stability concerns.
Support the development of plans and recommendations for improving database stability, resilience, and performance.
Ensure all database security policies, permissions, and configurations are correctly applied and maintained.
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of accurate documentation, including maintenance procedures, fix guides, and runbooks.
Assist with backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing to ensure availability and data integrity.
Collaborate with internal teams across QA, Projects, Technical, and Operations to resolve issues and continually improve database processes.
Participate in continuous learning and development to build technical capability in database administration.
Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
Proven background and understanding of SQL language.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to follow structured procedures and documentation.
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with multi-functional teams.
Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, monitoring tools, or database performance concepts (desirable).
Experience in a technical support, QA, or operations environment (desirable).
Experience with scripting JAVA and Bash (desirable).
Experience in multi-layer application development (desirable but not required).
