About the Role
ALS Environmental is seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor, Asbestos to establish and lead our asbestos laboratory operations in Smithfield, Sydney. 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, Sydney, you will build a high-performing team, implement effective laboratory processes and drive operational, technical and quality excellence. You will be responsible for developing team capability, maintaining accreditation requirements and ensuring accurate, high-quality results for our clients. 

This is an exciting opportunity to establish a specialist operation and contribute to the continued growth of ALS Environmental in New South Wales. 

This is a fulltime, permanent opportunity working Monday - Friday 9am-5pm 

The Day-to-Day:

  • Establish and lead ALS’s asbestos laboratory operations in Smithfield, Sydney. 

  • Recruit, coach and develop a high-performing team of Asbestos Identifiers and fibre Counters. 

  • Manage laboratory workflows, resources, equipment and day-to-day performance. 

  • Provide technical leadership across asbestos identification and fibre counting services. 

  • Maintain compliance with accreditation requirements, ALS quality systems and industry standards. 

  • Lead quality assurance, proficiency testing and continuous improvement activities. 

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, collaboration and customer service. 

  • Work with the Operations Manager and Environmental leadership team to support business growth and strategic priorities.

The Essentials: 

  • You will bring strong technical expertise, operational leadership and a passion for developing high-performing teams. 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Occupational Hygiene, Laboratory Science or a related discipline. 

  • Extensive experience in asbestos identification and fibre counting within an accredited laboratory. 

  • Strong knowledge of asbestos testing methodologies, industry standards and quality management systems. 

  • Experience establishing, leading or growing an asbestos laboratory operation. 

  • Experience managing accreditation, audits, quality assurance programs and laboratory resources. 

  • Proven ability to recruit, develop and inspire high-performing teams. 

  • Strong commercial, organisational, planning and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environmental leadership. 

  • NATA Endorsed Signatory status is highly regarded. 

  • Experience in project management, business development or client relationship management within the environmental testing industry will be advantageous.
