Your team

The Financial Stability Department advises the Governors and Board on risks to the stability of the financial system and produces the biannual Financial Stability Review (FSR). The Australian Financial System section (AFS) assesses the resilience of the financial system by monitoring and stress testing financial institutions. In crisis periods, AFS works closely with others across the Bank and other public sector agencies to address risks to the financial system. AFS is comprised of three teams covering banks, non-bank financial institutions, and crisis management and resolution.

Your role

You will play a key role in the RBA’s work to contribute to financial stability. You will work closely with your manager to shape your and your teams’ work program, lead and collaborate on projects, and coach more junior staff (as appropriate). Working in AFS offers an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of how banks and other financial institutions work and are regulated, and to play a part in strengthening Australia’s crisis management arrangements to support financial stability. You will also gain exposure to other parts of the Reserve Bank, APRA and other agencies.

The typical aspects of AFS’ work include

  • Identifying and assessing systemic risks and vulnerabilities.

  • Developing recommendations based on analysis related to the resilience of financial institutions and preparations for crisis conditions.

  • Preparing briefing materials and analysis for the Reserve Bank’s senior executives.

  • Analysing the links between different parts of the financial system.

Your background:

We are seeking experienced Lead or Senior Analysts with:

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, and an aptitude for handling data.

  • High standards in the production of written analysis.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, to drive timely delivery and collaboration on projects.

  • An interest in developing leadership skills would be valued.

  • Knowledge of how financial institutions operate and prudential regulation is desirable, but not a prerequisite for the role.

  • Hold a degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field, with a strong foundation in economic and/or financial principles.

Be More

Working for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility. Your individual growth and success drives the RBA forward as an organisation. Be more means you can do more, for yourself and for Australia.
Why RBA?
