About the Team

The Legal team at hummgroup are directly responsible for the provision of all non-transactional, transactional and project based legal advice and assistance to internal humm Business Units. We are a relatively flat organisational structure, and as a member of the team you are accountable for end-to-end responsibility for your area of focus and will need to be flexible and able to take on additional and/or different accountabilities as required.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to support the broader hummgroup Legal team to ensure that hummgroup and its related bodies corporate continue to operate in compliance with relevant licence obligations and the external legislative and regulatory environment. Reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for driving a culture of excellence in legal risk management and governance across the hummgroup of companies.  

What Does a Day at humm Look Like?

Main activities

  • Reviewing and drafting commercial transactional documents, hummgroup standard form contracts, disclosure documents and customer communications.
  • Providing technical advice on developments in the legal and regulatory environment as well as ad-hoc legal advice in other areas affecting hummgroup.
  • Assisting in the implementation and maintenance of processes to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Assisting the Operational Risk & Compliance team with incident investigation and assessment and advising on remediation when needed.
  • Supporting new product development, features and services offered by hummgroup.
  • Supporting the development of policies, procedures, and training programmes for staff on legal issues.
  • Assisting our Customer Relations team with the resolution of complex customer complaints or other claims and disputes.
  • Providing legal advice and drafting support for the management team and external advisers evaluating and structuring future business opportunities.
  • Working with external lawyers working on larger transactional or regulatory matters.
  • Assisting the marketing team with reviewing marketing collateral and customer communications to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

The ability to create accurate and complete information reporting as directed or requested, to ensure that the hummgroup Board and Executive Team are continuously informed of legal risk management and compliance issues.
  • strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to draft with limited supervision.
  • strong commitment to hummgroup values and behavioural framework and the ability to actively drive a culture of legal excellence and a “culture of compliance” within hummgroup, and
  • exemplary time management and organisational skills proportionate to your experience.

Bonus points if:

  • you have some experience dealing with regulatory or industry bodies.
  • you have in-house experience working in a financial services company.

Qualifications

  • LLB or equivalent.
  • Current practising certificate.
  • 2 to 5 years post-admission experience in a commercial and financial services environment.
