The position provides day-to-day legal support to business units, ensuring that legal risks are identified, assessed, and managed appropriately. The role also contributes to the development and implementation of legal processes, documentation, and frameworks to support consistent and efficient legal operations across the organisation.

Working closely with the General Counsel and cross-functional stakeholders, the Legal Counsel is expected to apply sound legal judgement, deliver clear and practical advice, and support the business in meeting its legal and regulatory obligations in a timely and effective manner.

You'll report directly to the General Counsel in this role.

Please note, it's a full-time opportunity offering hybrid working conditions out of our Sydney CBD Office.

Some of your responsibilities include and are not limited to:

Commercial & Contract Law

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including SaaS subscription agreements, NDAs, supplier contracts, and customer agreements.
  • Support the business in managing contract lifecycles, including templates, playbooks, and standard terms.
  • Identify legal risks in commercial arrangements and escalate where appropriate.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Assist in advising on regulatory requirements across Australia and New Zealand, including privacy, consumer law, and credit reporting obligations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
  • Assist with responses to regulatory inquiries and audits.

Corporate & Governance Support

  • Provide support on corporate governance matters, including board and shareholder documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining company records and supporting compliance with Corporations Act requirements.
  • Work closely with the General Counsel on corporate structuring and governance initiatives.

Employment & Workplace Law

  • Support employment-related matters, including drafting employment agreements, reviewing policies, and assisting with employee relations matters.
  • Work with People & Culture to ensure compliance with employment legislation.

Disputes & Risk Management

  • Assist in managing disputes, claims, and external counsel engagements.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation across legal and commercial activities.

 Business Partnering

  • Partner with teams across Sales, Product, Technology, Finance, and People & Culture to provide timely and practical legal support.
  • Translate legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate

Experience & Qualifications

  • 3–5 years PQE, with private practice experience (essential) in corporate, commercial, or technology law. In house experience in a fintech business would be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to commercial contracting, regulatory matters, or technology clients is highly desirable.
  • Strong technical legal foundation with a desire to transition into an in-house role.

Competencies, Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Strong drafting and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proactive and eager to learn, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a growing, evolving environment.
