The purpose of this role is to support EML’s Corporate Nominal Insurer claims teams and policyholders through preparation and strategic management of litigated matters including work injury damages (WID) claims and statutory disputes in the Personal Injury Commission.

Additionally, you will lead and support the Corp Legal Dispute Resolution Officers as your direct reports.

This will be a full-time, 12-month secondment/Maximum Term Contract position based in Sydney office, with flexibility to work from home up to 2 days.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, supervise and support the Dispute Resolution Officers ensuring their capability and capacity to attend the Personal Injury Commission in-person events to confidently and efficiently instruct the legal panel provider and barrister as EML's representative with the aim of maximising positive outcomes and early resolution.
  • Manage a portfolio of litigated matters, working closely with the external legal panel providers to ensure a high level of legal advice, and effective litigation strategy to drive optimum outcomes.
  • Support the claims team by providing legal advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines affecting workers’ compensation claims to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.
  • Support the claims team by assisting with stakeholder liaison regarding litigated and contentious claims.
  • Attend legal proceedings as EML’s representation together with the external legal provider representative.
  • Participate in strategic review of claims portfolio, including presenting to employers about general legal concepts or individual cases.
  • Keep up to date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium and the scheme.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in operations as part of the Support Services leadership team.

ABOUT YOU

  • More than 5+ years demonstrated experience in a similar role, working within a fast-paced business environment, preferably PQE experience, including legal practice.
  • Strong leadership skills, focused on developing others, innovation and problems solving
  • Strong claims management experience including litigation, working within a personal injury environment
  • Excellent understanding of the Workers compensation legislations and the associated regulations (old legislation and amendments).
  • Current unrestricted NSW practice certificate highly desirable
