For us, these are exciting times. There’s a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we’ve been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

This role provides dedicated Line 1 Risk support to Group Tax, helping to ensure tax risks are effectively identified, assessed, managed and monitored in line with AMP's risk appetite, internal policies, and legislative and regulatory obligations.

Working across all Tax activities, the role supports risk governance, risk assessments, control design and assurance, risk reporting and remediation activities. It also plays a key role in strengthening risk culture, maintaining effective governance practices and supporting continuous improvement across the Tax risk and control environment.

How will you make an impact

Governance

  • Facilitate effective tax risk governance through the coordination of Tax Risk Forums, preparation of reporting materials and ongoing oversight of the Tax Risk Management Framework and associated governance documentation.
  • Maintain and uplift Tax compliance plans to meet legislative, regulatory and ATO Justified Trust obligations, while monitoring risk performance through KRIs, KPIs and risk appetite measures.
  • Support annual tax compliance activities and contribute to wider Finance risk governance, including Finance Risk Forums, FLT, Board reporting, risk culture initiatives and control uplift activities.

Risk Assessment

  • Lead regular identification and assessment of key risks within Tax.
  • Lead risk assessment of emerging operational risks arising through change (including through Regulatory / legislative change).

Controls

  • Design and maintain key controls to mitigate tax risks and support compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop and execute control testing activities to provide assurance over the effectiveness of the Tax control environment.
  • Monitor control effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities and support the remediation of control issues.

Risk Identification and Remediation

  • Support the identification, assessment and remediation of risk events and issues across Tax, ensuring timely resolution and effective risk management.
  • Provide risk insights and analysis to support decision-making and continuous improvement across Tax and Finance.
  • Conduct thematic reviews and risk deep dives to identify trends, improvement opportunities and potential control weaknesses.

In addition, this role will champion the use of IRM across Tax, driving transparency, data quality and self-service capability, while leading data governance initiatives and supporting the ongoing uplift of tax risk culture.

The role will work closely with Finance, Treasury and Risk stakeholders to embed best practice risk management across the business, maintain effective relationships with Line 2 and Line 3 teams and provide support to the Head of Treasury Risk, Director of Tax and Group Treasurer as required.

What you will bring to the role

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in finance, math or law related discipline.
  • 4+ years’ experience in finance, tax, audit or risk management, preferably within the financial services sector within a regulated institution or a consulting/audit firm

It would be well regarded if you bring an understanding of Australian tax principles and tax governance requirements, together with knowledge of contemporary risk management practices and frameworks. Experience applying these capabilities in a complex corporate or financial services environment would be highly valued

Who you are

You are a highly analytical risk professional who can interpret complex risk, control and compliance information and translate it into practical, commercially focused recommendations. With excellent problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset, you are comfortable identifying opportunities to strengthen risk and control outcomes.

You are an effective communicator with the ability to prepare high-quality governance reporting and present complex concepts to a range of stakeholders. Highly organised and detail-oriented, you can manage competing priorities, work collaboratively across teams and consistently deliver quality outcomes in a dynamic environment.
