At Modo Energy, we're on a mission to build the information architecture for the energy transition - we want to be the only place to come to for information on the global journey to net zero. Take a look at our platform, where we provide open access to an array of content on the energy transition.

We're a dedicated and passionate team building a category-defining business, working on one of the world's most important priorities. We are looking for individuals who love product-building, want to work with pace at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a rapidly growing team.

The role

The Market Analyst will have experience within the sector and a desire to use their knowledge and expertise to help produce novel, industry-standard research and analysis to support customers and the wider battery energy storage sector.

On top of this, they will be working in collaboration with Modo’s data, modelling, and product teams to help plan and build data analytics products that will revolutionise the workflow of others across the power industry.

Modo Energy tools are used to help organisations finance, build, benchmark, and operate battery energy storage systems. Therefore, this role represents an opportunity for the successful candidate to become a highly influential thought leader within the space.

You will have a huge influence on the company (and, by extension, the industry) as we expand our research and product offerings within Australia and the wider APAC region. And you will be helping to build a product that every market participant uses.

Responsibilities:

  • Producing data-led, analytical content about power markets and asset operations, in a variety of formats - but mainly written articles and videos - to communicate high-value insights to our audience.
  • Being a founding member of Modo’s Australian office, supporting operations and new hires, and helping to establish office culture.
  • Staying up to date with the latest news across markets and policy, communicating this within the company and to the wider industry.
  • Getting to know our users, building your network, and staying up to date with the latest developments in the clean energy industry.
  • Working collaboratively with teams across the business, to make sure that all aspects of the organisation are pulling in the same direction and giving our users huge value across all of our product, content, and customer-facing endeavours.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional working experience in power markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of how the electricity system works and how power is traded - preferably with some experience of how battery energy storage systems earn money - in the NEM.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills. You’ll be relied upon to discover, explore, visualize, and communicate trends and patterns you find in numerical data, in ways that provide value to our users.
  • Experience in writing clearly and concisely - to distill and communicate complex topics into accessible, jargon-free language.
  • Strong critical thinking skills. At Modo Energy, you will have the platform to become an influential thought leader within the renewable energy space - but you’ll need to be able to develop your own thoughtful opinions, and ask insightful questions of those around you (internally and externally).
  • Nice to have:
    • Experience carrying out complex data analysis in Python.

Important Details:

  • We work in a Hybrid Environment: You split your time between working from home and working in our Sydney (Business District) office (Tuesday - Thursday).
