About Modo Energy

The energy transition is the biggest infrastructure buildout in human history. Modo Energy is the data platform at the centre of it.

We build the benchmarking, forecasting, and valuation tools that the world's most serious energy investors, developers, and operators depend on to make decisions. If a battery gets financed, built, or traded anywhere in the world, there's a good chance Modo data was in the room.

Founded in 2019, we're 75+ people across London, New York, Sydney, and Madrid; $30M Series B, AI-native, and moving fast.

This is a rare chance to join a category-defining company at the moment it's scaling globally.

The Role

We're hiring a Market Analyst to join our Sydney team. You'll build and ship the forecast, benchmarking, and research products our customers rely on to value assets like battery energy storage and solar across the NEM. You'll have real responsibility and direct customer interaction from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Source, process, and interpret complex energy datasets to drive forecasting and research
  • Build and ship power market and dispatch models that value electrification assets across Australia
  • Own quality and credibility — analyse model outputs and perform rigorous QA across all published numbers and customer-facing deliverables
  • Translate technical analysis into clear, compelling narratives for customers and colleagues
  • Present and explain forecast methodology to customers, adapting your pitch to their knowledge level
  • Work closely with engineering teams to integrate models into the Modo Energy Terminal
  • Use AI tools throughout your workflow to accelerate analysis and ship faster

What We're Looking For

The Essentials

  • Degree in a quantitative field — mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, economics, or similar
  • 3–5 years of experience in power markets, ideally across price forecasting, dispatch, and optimisation
  • Strong Python proficiency; comfortable with NumPy, Pandas, and SciPy
  • Familiarity with Australian power markets, including the NEM, renewables, and market design
  • Proven experience producing high-visibility, customer-facing analytical outputs
  • Active user of AI tools to build models, run analysis, or ship products

Nice To Have

  • Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS or equivalent)
  • Experience with linear programming and optimisation frameworks
  • Experience integrating analytical models into customer-facing data products

Equal Opportunity & Legal

  • Compensation: $140k–$200k per year, plus superannuation at the legislated rate
  • Leave entitlements: 25 days annual leave plus 5 flexi days (flexi days are available on Mondays and Fridays only), in addition to statutory entitlements under the National Employment Standards
  • Modo Energy is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, national origin, physical or mental disability, race, religion, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected under applicable Australian law, including the Fair Work Act 2009 and the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986.
  • If you require assistance or a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact us at [email protected]

What You Can Expect From Us

At Modo Energy, we believe that exceptional work deserves exceptional reward. We're a high-performance team; ambitious, collaborative, and genuinely motivated by the scale of what we're trying to build.

You'll have real ownership from day one, work alongside some of the brightest people in the industry, and be part of a company that's defining a new category in the global energy market. We're hybrid: everyone works Tuesday to Thursday in office, with Monday and Friday flexible. We offer top-of-market compensation, equity for every employee, and the space to take your career wherever you want it to go.

We're looking for people who want to do the best work of their careers. If that's you, we want to talk.
