Job Description

AECOM’s Water Resources group is seeking an engaging and collaborative Hydrology Lead for our Australian business. Based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or North Queensland, this strategic role will support AECOM’s operations nationally.

Our Water Resources team currently delivers integrated, multidisciplinary services from flood risk and hydraulic modelling to drainage design, water quality and nature-based solutions, across various sectors including water resources, dams, infrastructure, energy, mining and community development.

This key leadership role will give you the opportunity to build networks across AECOM in Australia, New Zealand, and globally, from business operations through to management, while working closely with our leading specialists. How you’ll make a difference

  • Partner with Sector Managers and the Water Resources Sector Director to grow and diversify our hydrology and water resources services while contributing technical leadership and industry insight in dams, flooding, drought and integrated water management.
  • Support, mentor and develop team members through coaching and knowledge sharing, helping them thrive and reach their potential in alignment with strategic goals.
  • Build and nurture strong client relationships by understanding client needs, maintaining an established local portfolio, and ensuring responsive, high-quality communication and delivery.
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities by contributing to business development, cross-selling, and the preparation of compelling proposals and bids.

Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive

  • Strong expertise in complex hydrology, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications, professional registrations, and a minimum of 15 years of experience within the Australian consulting environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the hydrology and water resources sector, including legislation, guidelines, modelling tools and current market conditions.
  • A collaborative, client-focused approach with the ability to build trusted relationships and contribute thoughtfully to strategic business development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with professionalism and integrity, inspiring others through mentoring, adaptability, clear communication and a commitment to shared success.
